Dear brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus, part of the growing repentance remnant, cleansing as His Bride, getting ready for His soon return as our Bridegroom-----
One of my dear dear sisters in Christ will probably this election again vote for "Jesus Christ" as President of this USA republic. I understand her point of view; we're "citizens of heaven." Repenting and coming into His Kingdom needs to be the number one issue of our brief lifetimes. Repent or perish. (Luke 13:1-5). Jesus says that TWICE in those five verses!
At the same time we pay taxes. We can vote for candidates exhibiting His righteousness in offices from school board member to President. The first Speaker of the House in 1789 was a pastor. This is a good article on that process from Dr. Michael Brown:
The Church and the Elections
THE NOVEMBER 5th elections are important. VERY important.
But there is something much more important, and that is the state of the church. As we go, the nation goes. If we arise and shine in the power of the Spirit, America will be transformed.
If we cower and decline, the nation will be destroyed.
Unfortunately, many Christians take an either-or approach. Either we pray or we vote. Either we evangelize or we get involved politically. Instead, we need a both-and approach, yet one that puts first things first.
In other words, we always need to start with prayer, with personal and corporate repentance, with getting our own houses in order. We always need to put spiritual things first, using the weapons God has given us.
As I wrote 24 years ago in the Jesus Manifesto,
“We need a revolution! But this revolution will be different than other revolutions – including the revolution that birthed our nation more than 200 years ago. This revolution will not be fought with earthly weapons of destruction – not with guns and knives and bullets and bombs. It will not be fought with hatred, intimidation, or brute force. No. It will be fought with the message of the gospel, with the love of God, with the power of the Spirit, with radical holiness, with sacrifice, compassion, and courage. It will be a Jesus revolution, an intense clash between two spiritual kingdoms, a heavenly attack on the enemy’s strongholds, a no compromise stand for morality and truth. And it will impact society in a lasting way. It must!”
Yes,
“We put down our sword and take up our cross, overcoming Satan by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of our testimony, and by not loving our lives so much as to shrink from death (Rev. 12:11). Nothing can stop a revolution like this!”
Indeed,
“Our revolution is fueled by the power of the gospel, and the gospel does violence to the forces of hell. We must recover the fullness of the gospel of Jesus! It is nothing less than a direct assault on the kingdom of Satan, a frontal attack on hostile, spiritual powers, a mortal confrontation of light against darkness. It brings about the ultimate counterculture conflict.”
On with the Revolution!
But, to repeat, this is not a matter of either-or.
It is imperative that we exercise our right to vote, a right unknown to most human beings throughout history until recent centuries, a right still unknown to countless millions worldwide. It is crucial that we get informed, that we understand the key issues, that we know where the candidates stand, and that, with prayer for guidance, we cast our vote.
What we cannot do is get caught up in the political scene to the point of distraction, to the point that politics and the elections dominate our thinking, to the point that we are so focused on the latest polling data and the latest political battles that we lose our primary focus – our focus on Jesus; on intimacy with God; on quality time in the Word and prayer; on loving our families and neighbors; on sharing the gospel; on using our platforms of influence, whether online or in person, for gospel purposes above all.
Determination.
David said in Psalm 16:8, “I have set the LORD always before me,” or, as rendered in the NIV, “I keep my eyes always on the LORD.”
This requires determination. This requires purpose:
I will set my eyes on Him. I will look to Him. I will cry out to Him. I will commune with Him. I will lean on Him. I will interact with Him. I will trust Him. I will seek Him.
I will put eternal truths first – the glorious truths of forgiveness and redemption and everlasting life in the Father’s presence – and then, in light of those truths, I will make quality decisions in this world, including decisions about my personal life and family and vocation and mission, as well as my vote.
What issues matter most to the Lord? Let us make those priorities in our lives as well. And where do the different parties and candidates stand on those issues?
Let us vote accordingly.
But whoever wins the elections, we must always remember that:
1) God remains God, and He can work through good leaders or bad leaders.
2) Our hope is in Him and not in any political candidate or party. We have only one Savior!
3) We must pray for whoever wins the presidential election in accordance with Paul’s directive in 1 Timothy 2:1-4.
4) We must recognize that even the worst government cannot stop the spread of the gospel.
5) If our candidate of choice is elected, our task is just as urgent, since America stands on the edge of moral and spiritual collapse.
Seek God like never before
Put another way, whoever wins the elections, it is still revival or we die!
Let us, then, give ourselves to seeking God like never before, with all our hearts and our minds and souls and strength, asking Him to visit us individually and corporately, to transform us and to awaken us, then praying for Him to pour out His Spirit on the nation, drawing people from all walks of life to Him, by the tens of millions.
Let us also pray for His will in the elections. And then let us vote.
