Communion Statement

The Lord's Supper is celebrated here in the confession and glad confidence that our Lord, as He says, gives not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sin. In joyful obedience to the clear teaching of our Lord Jesus those are invited to His table who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us. They show forth His death until He comes. Because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and so are unable to receive the Sacrament are invited to meditate on God's Word in the distribution hymns and pray for the day when divisions will have ceased. If you wish to receive communion in your pew, please inform an usher.

End of the Year Giving

St. Paul Lutheran Church and School has been historically blessed by end of the year giving. As our hearts open to the joy we have in gratitude to our Savior, end of the year giving is an excellent way to remember and financially support St. Paul. If you would like your offerings to be counted in your 2025 giving, plan on the following three ways and dates:

  • Offering plate by Sunday, December 28
  • Delivered to the Church/School Office by Friday, December 19
  • Electronically given by Thursday, December 25

Online Giving Reminder

Did you know that you can give electronically to St. Paul? For more information on electronic giving please contact the Church Office at 989-684-4450 or visit St. Paul Online Giving. If you have been using electronic giving, the Board of Business Management would like to encourage you to update or reevaluate your giving so that it reflects what you desire to give.

Benkert Family Newsletter

"Greetings in Christ! We want to take a moment to thank you for continued prayers, encouragement, and generous support throughout our seminary journey. Your partnership has meant more to us than words can express.

This marks our final year at seminary, and we are both excited and humbled as we prepare for the next step in our call to serve the Lord and His Church. God has been faithful through every challenge and joy, and we look forward with anticipation to where He will send us this coming April at the seminary's placement call service.

Our family continues to grow in faith and gratitude each day. The children are doing great at their new school, and together we have been blessed by the love and fellowship of our seminary community.

As we look ahead, please continue to keep us in your prayers - that we would remain faithful in study, steadfast in service, and joy in the Gospel of Christ.

Thank you again for walking with us in this season of preparation and growth.

Blessings in Christ, The Benkerts"

Book Fair Thank You!

Once again, St. Paul families generously supported our Book Fair! We earned $1,000 cash profit, plus 580 Scholastic Dollars to be used for books and resources. Shoppers also donated 53 new books to St. Paul classrooms, library, and extended care. Thrivent made it possible to give 41 students new books and prizes.

A special thank you to Sheri Lusher, Amanda Boyle, Megan Kusterer, Kaleb Kusterer, Bonnie List, Carol Hayward, Clarissa Marter, Kelly Schimm, Ashley Jaskiewicz, and Julia Appold, who kindly gave of their time and talents. Thanks also to Jeff, Sofia, and Nora Glasser who assisted with Book Fair set up and clean up. Each of you helped to make the Book Fair a huge success. I am so thankful for you. - Kristen Glasser

St. Paul School - Holly Jolly Store

The Holly Jolly Christmas Store is right around the corner (December 11 & 12). The Holly Jolly Christmas Store is a fully donation funded event, for students of St. Paul to shop for Christmas gifts for family. During the Holly Jolly Christmas store, students will shop with their classes to purchase gifts ranging in price from $1-$5 for family members. Gifts will go home with the students wrapped and ready to be delivered at Christmas.

To make this a successful event for St. Paul Students, the PTO needs your help!

We are accepting donations of large shopping bags (for students to bring gifts home in-large plastic or reusable bags), gift bags, tissue paper, tape, along with new and gently used items for moms, dads, grandparents, and siblings. (We never have enough mens and older boy items so those are a top priority, but anything is appreciated!)

Donation boxes are located inside the main entrance at the school and in the Ministry Center. Every donation helps make the event special for our students.

We are also looking for Holly Jolly volunteers to set up and work the event. We appreciate as many volunteers as possible to make this event as magical as we can for the kids! Please sign up here and bring your cheer! Contact Kayla Schlicker with any questions at 989-450-8057.

St. Paul in Prayer

The meetings will be every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. in the Ministry Center. They will be one hour long as we use a specific format for praying using scripture as our guide. Even if you do not have children or grandchildren at St. Paul, you may still come and join us in prayer. If you have any questions, please call or Text Heidi Schultz at 989-450-0975.

Thrivent Action Grants

Thrivent Action Grants are a fantastic way for Thrivent clients to lead a volunteer project in our St. Paul Lutheran Church and School community. Each grant provides up to $250 in "seed money" for projects such as fundraisers, service activities, and/or educational events. Thrivent Action Grants are a great opportunity to get a team together, live generously in faith, and make a small or significant difference in our church and school community. If you are a Thrivent client and have an idea for a project, you can learn more and apply at Thrivent.com/ActionTeams. If you have any questions, contact the office.

Stewardship - An Act of Faith

Colossians 1:18a – “And he is the head of the body, the church.” We are part of the Body of Christ; He is our Head. Where He goes, we follow. His thoughts direct our actions. This is how the people of God learn how to give and why they give. Because Jesus gives, indeed He gives all He has.

The Old Testament

Malachi 3:13–18

“Your words have been hard against me, says the LORD. But you say, ‘How have we spoken against you?’ You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God. What is the profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the LORD of hosts? And now we call the arrogant blessed. Evildoers not only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape.’” Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another. The LORD paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the LORD and esteemed his name. “They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.”

The Epistle

Colossians 1:13–20

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Holy Gospel

Luke 23:27–43

And there followed [Jesus] a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him. But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments. And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.” One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
