Communion Statement

The Lord's Supper is celebrated here in the confession and glad confidence that our Lord, as He says, gives not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sin. In joyful obedience to the clear teaching of our Lord Jesus those are invited to His table who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us. They show forth His death until He comes. Because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and so are unable to receive the Sacrament are invited to meditate on God's Word in the distribution hymns and pray for the day when divisions will have ceased. If you wish to receive communion in your pew, please inform an usher.

All are invited to be a part of St. Paul in Prayer, a new group beginning here at St. Paul that will be meeting once a week to pray for our school, students, staff, and church. Each meeting will be one hour long as we use a specific format for praying using scripture as our guide. We will have an informational meeting on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 8:00 a.m. in the St Paul Ministry Center. Even if you do not have children or grandchildren at St. Paul, you may still come and join us in prayer. If you have any questions, please call or Text Heidi Schultz at 989-450-0975.

Thank You

Thank you for the prayers, well wishes and card. I believe God's hand was guiding my surgeon all the way. Prayer helps and I had the faith it would be well worth it.

God Bless my St Paul Family, Bob Hofford

Thank You

The 14th annual JME Memorial Run/Walk was a great success! We are sincerely grateful for the JME sponsors that made this event possible. Thank you to the Frankenlust Fire Department for ensuring our safety on the road.

Following the race, families enjoyed concessions, face painting, bounce houses, and good old-fashioned fellowship. It was a chilly but beautiful day spent together. Our Dunk Tank Fundraiser, featuring St. Paul 8th graders, as well as Pastor Matyas, Pastor Schultz, and Peter Schimm raised $454. Thank you all for braving the cold! Funds will help make next year's event possible.

A special thank you to Gary Behmlander for the delicious Italian Ice and cotton candy, and also to Principal Matyas for the face painting. We are grateful for everyone who volunteered at the event. We could not have done this without you! – With appreciation from the Garcia and Glasser families

Thrivent Action Grants

Thrivent Action Grants are a fantastic way for Thrivent clients to lead a volunteer project in our St. Paul Lutheran Church and School community. Each grant provides up to $250 in "seed money" for projects such as fundraisers, service activities, and/or educational events. Thrivent Action Grants are a great opportunity to get a team together, live generously in faith, and make a small or significant difference in our church and school community. If you are a Thrivent client and have an idea for a project, you can learn more and apply at Thrivent.com/ActionTeams. If you have any questions, contact the office.

Beautiful Church Music Seeking Vocal and Instrumental Musicians

Church Music is seeking brave souls to bring it to life each week. Are you a musician? Or maybe you just like hanging out with people who can read music and laugh at organist jokes? Then have we got a ministry for YOU! Choir meets at 6pm and Bell Choir at 7pm on Tuesdays in the church starting on September 9th. Contact Peter Schimm at (602) 781-4519, email peter.schimm@stpaulbaycity.org, or just sneak into rehearsal—we’ll notice you (and probably give you a folder). Rehearsals are fun, non-threatening, and occasionally involve snacks. Auditions consist of showing up and not fleeing. If you know of someone who should come, let them know you think so too!

Donut Donors Needed - Junior High Youth Group

The Jr. High Youth Group is in need of Donut Donors for their Sunday morning gatherings. If you are interested in bringing some donuts in for very hungry middle schoolers, please sign-up using the form outside the youth room. We are also accepting monetary donations which can be placed in the envelope provided outside of the youth room as well. Please contact Dave or Andrea Dent with any questions. Thank you for making Jr. High Youth Group sweet!

Stewardship - An Act of Faith

Luke 16:8b – “For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.” The sons of this world know that they should use their wealth wisely to provide for their future. Shouldn’t we, as “sons of light,” know that the wealth God has allowed us to manage should be managed for God’s purposes in roles He has given us to play in church, home and society?

The Old Testament

Amos 8:4–7

Hear this, you who trample on the needy and bring the poor of the land to an end, saying, “When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may offer wheat for sale, that we may make the ephah small and the shekel great and deal deceitfully with false balances, that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals and sell the chaff of the wheat?” The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: “Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.”

The Epistle

1 Timothy 2:1–15

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works. Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

Holy Gospel

Luke 16:1–15

[Jesus] also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’ And the manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.’ So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him. And he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”
