Church Council met on August 18, 2019. To help keep you in the loop, here is a summary of what was discussed during the meeting:
On behalf of  Trusted Leadership, Paul Jensen  provided a brief overview of the proposed Music Fund policy that was presented at the July Council meeting. Church Council then approved the Music Fund policy.
Highlights of the policy include:
  • A clear procedure for documenting gifts to the Music Fund
  • Identification of the Music Director as the key person in ensuring the request for disposition of funds satisfies a non-budgeted need
  • An approval process which proceeds from the Trustees (i.e. Is the request appropriate?), to the Finance Committees (i.e. Do we have the money?) and then to Church Council for final approval.

The full policy can be found here
On behalf of the Stewardship Committee, Kirby Johnson  informed Church Council that the Stewardship Committee discussed moving the annual stewardship campaign to a fall timeline (November) versus an early winter timeline (January-February).  More information will be available after the Stewardship Committee meets again in early September. Contribution Statements and Impact Reports are being distributed via mail this month. If you have any questions about your Contribution Statement, please contact Allison Maynard (Financial Secretary) at .
Senior Pastor, Josh Kilbourne  informed Church Council that the Nominations and Leadership Development Committee is working hard to fill vacancies on church committees. The complete slate of committee members will be presented and approved at a Charge Conference on November 17, 2019 at 6:30 pm. The Finance Committee will begin the church budgeting process for 2020 soon as well.

Josh discussed a new 6-week class offering, Fully Devoted , which will start Wednesday, August 28. This course will be taught by Pastor Josh, Rebekah Ducote (Director of Discipleship), and Kathy Robertson (Lay Leader). It ties in with the recent sermon series about becoming fully equipped disciples. We will explore Who We Are and Whose We Are and how God has given each of us unique gifts to use in our church and the community around us. This class is for anyone and everyone at church, not just newer people.

Pastor Josh discussed the recent sermon series that concluded on Sunday, August 25 with a focus on Hospitality. Pastors Josh and Bill will now begin preaching from the “Narrative Lectionary” which lays out scripture for each Sunday. A guide to the lectionary can be found here .

Pastor Josh has been participating in Listening Sessions with the congregation in various small groups and Sunday School Classes. He has heard great feedback about Signal Crest and the wonderful energy surrounding the church as we look forward to implementing our vision. An open listening session is scheduled on August 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Debbie and Lee Matthews. If you are interested in attending, please contact Kristy Stewart at or call her at 423-886-2330.
In Partnership,
