HOPE Ministry: Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement
Each Saturday morning, volunteers from Garner UMC as well as other area churches, gather to provide homecooked meals, a hot shower, a change of clothes and other necessary items to some of our communities homeless. This outreach program is designed to provide homeless people a break in their day as well as a safe and encouraging environment. The volunteers are equally blessed by having the opportunity to witness to this great group of men and women.
There are opportunities for our church family to support this mission. Donations of food, snacks, bottled water, toiletries, clothes, etc. are often needed. Currently, we are collecting blankets and new men and women’s socks. If you are interested in providing food on a rotating basis, visit [email protected] to be added to the rotation. Lee Ellen Coffey ([email protected]) is the meal coordinator and can answer any questions. Volunteers are always welcome on Saturday mornings to help too! Since 2016, Faith Promise has provided over $7500 in financial support to HOPE. Thank you!

Garner United Methodist Church will participate in Wake County's Read and Feed program on Thursday nights from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
The program will provide one-on-one tutoring specifically in reading, a family meal, books, and prizes once per week. The program consists of a fall semester and a spring semester. Volunteers are needed to tutor children every week during the semesters. If you cannot do each week, but would like to help, there are ways such as serving as a sub, helping with the meal, or helping with book giveaways each week.
No teaching experience is required…just a love for children and helping others. Volunteer training is provided by Read and Feed. Parents will stay the entire time and be engaged in learning opportunities as well.
Please call Liz Newlin at 919-210-9696 or email at [email protected] to let her know that you are interested or if you have further questions. You can also go to the web site for Read and Feed - https://readandfeed.org/
