THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH WELCOMES YOU
|
|
We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
As constituent members of the Anglican Communion in the United States, we are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world.
We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world. We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church.
Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation.
We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.

VICARAGE PROJECT UPDATE
|
|
The CMEC Vicarage Project is on schedule to have the septic system installed this August and hopefully the design and construction plans will go through the Planning Department for approval by then as well. These stamped plans are out for bid with three contractors and once we get those back the Bishop’s Committee (BC) will decide who to sign a contract with to build the vicarage.
The house is 1779 sq ft, 2B/2B with two covered lanais and 624 sq ft two car garage and is located next door to the sanctuary. The garage has a 1 car sized open carport with a half bathroom attached. This carport will be used for social hour between services when needed. Since the building will be next door it will also mean we have a restroom near the church.
The Search Committee has now been formed to begin the process to have the BC nominate a candidate to the Bishop for him to appoint a new full time priest to serve as our Vicar who would have this new vicarage to live in. The Clergy In Residence Program has gone on for two years and has been very successful, but it is not sustainable for achieving the long term goals of our mission. Priest housing has been the biggest concern for having a full time priest called and the temporary housing we have used for the CIR Program will no longer be available after next year.
The church office building is being partially vacated by September 1st so we can now potentially use some of this added space for a larger priest’s office. The Bishop’s Committee will be considering the best ways to use this additional space that has not been available to us in the past.
This is an exciting time for CMEC so stay tuned for hearing about our ongoing progress in the months ahead as we reimagine and plan for a very bright future. Please remember us in your prayers during this time of transition.
Aloha, Maggie Lea

PRESIDING BISHOP MICHAEL CURRY INVITES APPLICANTS FOR UNITED NATIONS 2022 CLIMATE
CONFERENCE DELEGATION
|
|
Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry invites all Episcopalians over 18 to consider applying to be a delegate—in person or virtually—to the 2022 United Nations climate change conference, known as the 27th session of the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).
Applications are due by September 1, 2022. Adults ages 18-40, members of Black and Indigenous communities, people of color, LGBTQ+ Episcopalians, Episcopalians from communities on the frontline of climate change, and Episcopalians with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. The Episcopal Church delegation will attend daily events during COP27, which will be in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from November 6-18. This year’s hybrid platform will allow for a wider representation of Episcopalians on the delegation. READ MORE

CONVENTION 54: THE TRUE
LOVE OF PEACE
|
|
The theme for this year's annual meeting is "The True Love of Peace" as taken from the Collect for Peace:
Almighty God, kindle, we pray, in every heart the true love of peace, and guide with your wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth, that in tranquillity your dominion may increase until the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The Bishop also calls upon the following Scriptures for reflection: Micah 4:1-5, Psalm 85:7-13, Ephesians 2:13-18, and Matthew 5:43-48.
The logo is formed with hands of different races cradling the Trinity knot that represents the Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In its original form of vesicae pisces, it incorporates the Christian symbol of the fish. During these tumultuous times, the Bishop added the phrases "Peace is born from relationships ~ Unity in diversity."

INDOOR FACE MASK POLICY CHANGE
|
|
Christ Memorial Moves to Recommended Indoor Masking
Christ Memorial is keeping in step with the CDC and County of Kauaʻi guidelines, which now are that indoor mask wearing is strongly recommended but not yet required. As the prominence of the virus wanes, please keep those suffering from its effects in your prayers.

FOREST SONNET, WHIDBY ISLAND
Leslie Scoopmire
(For a friend in grief, for the assurance of resurrection )
Now, no matter, child, the name:
Sorrow’s springs are the same.
No mouth had, no nor mind, expressed
What heart heard of, ghost guessed:
It is the blight man was born for,
It is Margaret you mourn for.”
–from “Spring and Fall,” by Gerard Manley Hopkins
Here Sorrow springs and newborn Spring sorrows;
Their grief resolves in fiddleheads tomorrow.
The mournful poet sees the greening leaf
and vaults ahead to autumn’s parting grief….
An anticipatory grief, so-called.
Here last year’s leaves lie trodden, branch scraped-bald
From winter’s remnant grip. But see, as Spring
Flushes first rosy throat, as thrushes sing
God’s glory! Still, larks chirruping, skimming
The winds arise from southern vales, brimming
Their blessings upon the restive, waking Earth.
The forest floor will testify that birth
Sings from subsidence, converting death
God’s gravid Spirit– resurrection’s breath.

A Prayer:
Magnificent Holy Father.
I stand before you at this altar. So many have given you more.
I may not have much I can offer. Yet what I have is truly yours.
This is my offering, dear Lord.
This is my offering to You, God.
Your offering enables us to maintain worship, prayer and study during this time. Help us continue to provide a beautiful, flourishing, and safe "Sanctuary for the Spirit" at our historic and faithful church on Kaua'i.
Change to Automated Giving: Thank you to those of you who automate your giving and have a plan to support your church. Your consistent, planned generosity makes it possible for us to budget and dream responsibly. Want to change to automated giving? It makes life easy, especially if you travel.
Live off island? If you have a prayer intention or would like to pray for those on our prayer list, email our office. To be part of the church collective means we all share in the cost of being a church. We want our church to have inspiring worship; pastoral care for those in need; beautiful church grounds; programs to learn and grow; and tools to reach out to those who are seeking a closer relationship with God. See the different ways you can share your gifts, on our Giving page HERE.

* Holidays: preparing merchandise for Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentines, 4th of July, and more
* School, Office, Art Craft Supplies: organizing and packaging materials for reuse
* Toys: sorting, cleaning, and packaging toys
