The focus group has been meeting monthly in 2025. Three main goals for our work include:
1 – To conduct thorough research on church planting in the denomination and deliver a robust, 5-year church planting vision.
2 – To create and roll out a nimble feedback tool for existing churches and pastors that identifies ongoing strategies and potential new works/leaders across conferences.
3 – To plan and facilitate a Spirit-led catalytic gathering for new leaders, ensuring a prophetic and affirming experience for all participants.
We started by defining key terms used in relation to BIC disciple-making, evaluating present practices, and laying out a road map for developing a recommendation to lead the BIC toward a movement of multiplication in disciple-making and church planting.
We are presently exploring historical BIC planting and disciple-making approaches and surveying pastors who are serving now. This fall, we hope to work with Leadership Council to develop a database of assets available for pastors and congregations in various stages of development.
Finally, we are identifying general categories that will help us share common language for the stages of development in church planting. Shared language will clarify processes, practices, and support available for potential and active church planters and pastors.
Please continue to pray with us!
We want God’s Spirit to lead us in forming a good foundation for a fresh work of the Spirit in a renewed disciple-making and church-planting movement within our BIC family.
