Updates from Church Multiplication Focus Group


In October 2024, BIC church leaders, bishops, and pastors from each regional conference gathered to renew the denomination’s focus on multiplication and discipleship (prompted by Priority 3 of Project 250). Out of that gathering, a focus group formed to move the work forward.


Here, Bishop Heather Beaty (focus group member and Susquehanna Conference bishop) provides an update on their progress:

The focus group has been meeting monthly in 2025. Three main goals for our work include:


1 – To conduct thorough research on church planting in the denomination and deliver a robust, 5-year church planting vision.


2 – To create and roll out a nimble feedback tool for existing churches and pastors that identifies ongoing strategies and potential new works/leaders across conferences.


3 – To plan and facilitate a Spirit-led catalytic gathering for new leaders, ensuring a prophetic and affirming experience for all participants.


We started by defining key terms used in relation to BIC disciple-making, evaluating present practices, and laying out a road map for developing a recommendation to lead the BIC toward a movement of multiplication in disciple-making and church planting.


We are presently exploring historical BIC planting and disciple-making approaches and surveying pastors who are serving now. This fall, we hope to work with Leadership Council to develop a database of assets available for pastors and congregations in various stages of development.


Finally, we are identifying general categories that will help us share common language for the stages of development in church planting. Shared language will clarify processes, practices, and support available for potential and active church planters and pastors.

Missions Day Livestream


This Saturday, August 9, head to the Roxbury Holiness Camp Facebook page to watch the Missions Day livestreams. Sessions are scheduled for 10:30am and 1:30pm and will feature updates and stories from BIC U.S. missionaries around the world.
