This Sunday's Sermon and Song List
This week we are wrapping up the "first leg" of our journey through Genesis by thinking about how the book is meant to transform our view of work. The Bible doesn't treat work as the bane of our existence. Work is given a very high status. In fact, it was created to be part of the human identity. But, there is a reason that we don't always enjoy work. The reason is that work also bears the curse of sin. So, we anticipate the day when work will no longer be infected with sin or cursed and when our work will be a perfect reflection of God and a perfect enjoyment of partnering with God again. Some passages you can meditate on to prepare yourself for worship this Sunday are: Genesis 1:1-5; 2:1-3, 8, 15, 18; Genesis 3:17-19; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21.

To get yourself ready to sing on Sunday you can start listening to the songs we'll be singing together:
  • Come Lord Jesus (Even so Come)
  • Resurrecting
  • Jesus Messiah
  • Your Grace Is Enough
We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.
New Adult Sunday School Class Starts July 18th:
What Does the Bible Say About__________________?
We will be spending a few weeks of our Sunday School time covering topics under the theme: What Does the Bible Say About ___________? This will give us a chance to cover some topics that might feel especially relevant in our day and consider how God's timeless truths speak to them. As Ecclesiastes says, "There is nothing new under the sun" (1:9). So we expect the Bible to be able to speak to every issue we're facing in our time with authority and truthfulness.

Week One, July 18th: What Does the Bible Say About Marijuana?
Women's Prayer Meetings
Prayer, prayer and more prayer. All women are encouraged to participate in our prayer time Thursday, July 15, at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the Women's Ministry area and will dedicate our time to prayer for individuals, our church, our city and area, our state, and our nation. We plan to meet for prayer every first Thursday at 2:00 PM and third Thursdays at 7:00 PM throughout 2021. Please join us!
Our Good Friend and Sister in Christ, Cynthia Zimbelman is moving!
While we are sad to see Cynthia go, we know this means that God has good plans. This also means that God might be calling others to step in and fill her shoes in Gathering Grounds. Reach out to the office if you would like to be a part of our ministry to the community through Gathering Grounds.
SIGN UP TO HELP with Christmas in July!
Christmas in July is a team effort with several churches in town to bless Yankton with a day of good deeds. Painting, mowing, picking up trash, putting up fences, moving furniture, organizing storage units...whatever our community needs, we want to help get it done! Would you like to be a part of helping people in the name of Jesus?
LGBTQ+ is "Coming For Your Children"
This week the San Francisco Gay Men's Choir posted a performance where they sing about their agenda to "convert" our children. You can read about it HERE. I wrote a response on my blog that you can read HERE. If you're interested, here were the basic points of my response:
  1. Thanks for telling us your game plan - it's helpful to see this plainly.
  2. We already knew this all along.
  3. Thanks for admitting that conversion is your goal - we're glad to know we're not the only religious ones.
  4. Actually, every knee will bow to Jesus as King - not your agenda - so you might as well come to Jesus now - his arms are wide open.

Pick Up Your Discovery Church Summer Calendar!
Church Calendars for July are available now! We thought it would be good to hand out a calendar because there are some new things we're trying and we're excited to have as many people as possible participate with us. If you want a DIGITAL COPY OF THE CALENDAR CLICK HERE.
This Summer we want to use our break from traditional Wednesday night gatherings and turn that extra energy and freedom toward Life Groups. These will be Summer long small groups dedicated to fellowship, Bible-discussion, and outreach. These groups are for individuals, couples or whole families to enjoy together. If you are interested in hosting or leading (or both!) one of these groups just let us know. You can sign up for a group as soon as this Sunday or you can contact the office if you're interested in hosting, leading or attending. What I (Pastor Cory) am looking forward to most about these groups is that each group can have it's own personality and be tailored to the needs of the group. Our family's group will be meeting at our house for topical Bible discussions, spiritual accountability and feasting. Then, once a month we'll be making a point to invite my neighbors along so that we can be a blessing to them as well. Wouldn't it be great if all our households were known in our neighborhoods for our generosity and hospitality!

New Life Groups Can Start Anytime - Let us know if you want to host one!

Currently there are three life groups meeting, Wednesdays at 5:30PM, Friday at 6:30, and the other on Saturdays at 5:30PM. Look for the sign up sheets on Sunday or contact the office if you want to be involved.
Here are all the study/fellowship opportunities currently available through our church:
  • Monday Morning Men's Group (6:45 AM at Fryn' Pan)
  • Men's Thursday Noon Bible Study (In-person at Discovery Church - bring a lunch if you like).
  • Women's Thursday morning study, 9:00 AM in the Women's Ministry Area will begin studying "Eyewitness The Acts Series". Child care available for Thursday mornings. Questions? Contact the church office at (605) 689-2211.
  • Women's Tuesday night Bible Study has ended for the summer. They will resume in August and continue in session 5 of "Everyday Theology".
This will be a great opportunity to join with each other not only for fellowship but also to publicly share our joy in Christ through song. We did something like this on Good Friday and had a really sweet time. If Discovery is your home church I would highly encourage you to join us! Many times as Christians we can feel really inadequate when we think about sharing our faith with others and trying to reach others. First of all, that's a good thing - we are inadequate and need to rely on God. But second of all, simply gathering with other believers for singing in public IS a witness to others. You are witnessing when you gather and sing with other believers. So come join us! We will also be joined by a small group from Arbor Drive Community Church of York, Nebraska. Their students will be doing work projects at Discovery and Pathways during this week and we will be there to sing and minister with us.

Look for us in the grass just off of W Riverside Drive at 6:30 on Wednesday, July 14th.
Consider looking up the event on Facebook HERE and sharing it on your Facebook Page.
Mary's Retirement Party
Join us on July 11th as we celebrate Mary on her retirement. We will gather in the Fellowship Hall directly after the worship service. Lunch will be provided.
