Church Schedule Update
July 26, 2020
Here's what you'll find in this week's church update:
1. Scriptural Encouragement from Revelation
2. Worship Gathering Plans
3. Additional Pastoral Search Update
4.Available Bible Studies/Fellowship Opportunities
When 'Rona first broke there was definitely some chatter about end-times that came along with it. Perfectly understandable. Months later the national mood continues to resemble that of a Pit-bull whose dinner is just out of reach. This means the end-times chatter is more intensified. History has no shortage of believers who've made predictions about when the end will come. In fact, even the disciples were asking Jesus about this all the way back in Acts 1.
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in
Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
In other words, "settle down and go make disciples." Or, "mind your business and preach the gospel." We each have our roles. God's role is to set the dates. Our role is to tell people the good news about King Jesus and the forgiveness of sins in his name. This simplifies things in a way that serves our joy. To stew and worry about what we can't control and try to guess at what God deliberately reserves the right to keep to himself only adds to our anxiety and distracts us from what he did, in fact, tell us to concentrate on. Jesus could return tomorrow. Or he might wait one-thousand more years. Really. And wouldn't that be grand? One thousand more years of souls created to hear the good news of Jesus! Either way, being on this mission serves our joy because this is
where Jesus promises to be with us (Matthew 28:20). So, let us pursue our joy in the spreading of His good news in every ordinary thing.
Worship Gathering Plans
We will continue to gather in person for worship at Discovery church this Sunday at 10:30AM. We have taken the tape off the rows in the worship center and removed a portion of the chairs to allow for more spacing. This approach actually allows us to maintain some distance between rows and increase our seating capacity beyond what was available with rows taped off.
: We have overflow now available in the fellowship/Gathering Grounds side of our building. We have a hard-line connection to the TV in the fellowship area where the service can be viewed if you want to be present but would also like a little more physical distance than the worship center provides. The Live-stream will also be available.
*NURSERY is NOW AVAILABLE:
This Sunday our nursery will be open and staffed during the morning worship service. Our volunteers will continue to abide by safe and sanitary procedures when caring for all the children in the nursery.
Pastoral Staff Search Begins August 6th
After much prayer, discussion and waiting the elders will begin the search for an additional pastor to join the Discovery church body. Biblically and constitutionally this responsibility is on the elders' shoulders but we have asked three members of the congregation to join us in the search. So, be in prayer for Peg Wittmeier, Dan Mason and Mary Holdahl as we take our first steps. Our vision at this time is to work toward calling a man who is a qualified elder/pastor according to 1 Timothy 3:1-7 (see also: Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4) and can particularly focus on youth and children's ministries.
