This Sunday's Sermon and Song List
This week's sermon is from Matthew 26:1-46. The main point of this passage is all about the suffering of Jesus. We'll be highlighting some foundational truths about what Jesus went through during the Passion Week and why he went through it. We'll be considering the depth of Christ's suffering, human need and weakness, the purpose of Christ in suffering and Christ's sovereignty over all things. There are applications for our boldness, warnings against grumbling, how to fight in the midst of sorrow and what to think when people fail, betray and disappoint you. As Matthew's gospel draws to a close we'll continue to see the awesome picture of the saving King who wore a crown of suffering for our sake.

Here are the songs we'll be singing together along with a link to a playlist so you can prepare yourself to sing out this Sunday:
  • Everlasting God
  • Psalm 19
  • The Wonder of Your Cross
  • O Praise the Name (Anastasis)
  • The Wonderful Cross
We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.
Before coming to church PLEASE REMEMBER:
  • If you are sick or experiencing any symptoms please do not come to church. Use caution and seek medical advice instead.
  • If you are in a high-risk category (e.g., compromised immune system, etc.) consult a medical professional that you trust to help make the right decision for you when it comes to public exposure.
  • Don't feel pressured to be back in church or volunteering as usual if you're not ready. If you're wondering how to make a decision about when to get back into a church routine, seek advice from trusted brothers/sisters in Christ, wisdom from God's word, and listen to your conscience.
  • Remember that masks are available in the church building if you want one. We will not bind the conscience when it comes to masks but we are happy to provide them for any and all that would like one.
*NURSERY and CHILDREN'S CHURCH NOW AVAILABLE! Both nursery and Children's Church volunteers will continue to abide by safe and sanitary procedures when caring for all the children in their care.

Pastoral Search Update: Phone Interviews Scheduled for this week and next
The elders and search team have selected a handful of applicants to contact by phone in the week ahead. This initial contact will be a theological interview with Pastor Cory to get a better sense of each applicant's beliefs and ministry philosophies. Most of the applications we received were from solid, godly men and we still may call many of them in the future. For now, we are concentrating on four that we think are most likely to click with Discovery Church. Be in prayer for us as we continue to receive new resumes each week and are diligently studying them and prayerfully seeking this addition to our pastoral team. If you missed our initial informational meeting about this search you can watch a RECAP HERE.

Discovery Zone HIGHLIGHT
Do you know what amazing things your 4th-6th grader will be learning about if they come to Discovery Zone?! Right now they're learning about the Names of God. "How Majestic Is Your Name" is a study for students on the names of God, which provides a structure to show the greatness of our God. The names of God in the Bible are a reflection of His character, which is so glorious that He cannot be described by a single name. How Majestic Is Your Name begins by presenting the character and work of God through His Hebrew names. Then, Jesus is shown as fully God and His redemptive role is shown through the names Lamb of God and High Priest. These build toward the truth that God is the only answer to the longings in man’s soul and to man’s sin problem. God’s awesome nature and majestic name require a response. The “eye-opening” and convicting work of the Holy Spirit is man’s only hope for responding to God and treasuring His great name. Such a response of faith enables us to suffer for the name of the God, who will work to protect His great name, giving us a solid foundation for our trust in Him.
Wednesday Night Adult Class
1 Corinthians: Challenging Church, Loving Church
Here's the description from our study guide through 1 Corinthians: Challenging Church, Loving Church
"If you're part of a church, you've probably got some good reasons to be disappointed or frustrated...It's not surprising. Churches say they have the best news on earth...and yet often our churches don't live or work as if those things are true. We're too possessive of small things, and too casual about great ones. Too defensive of our interests, and too often ignoring God.
And that's what the church in first-century Corinth was like. It was young, confident, full of life - and just as full of problems. What would God say to them? What did they need to be excited by, to listen to, to learn? How did they need to live and work together as God's people?"
Sounds pretty interesting right? Come check it out!

We want everyone in Yankton to belong to a gospel-preaching, Christ-centered church! If you think Discovery might be that church for you then you should check out our two part membership class. In one class we just talk about "Biblical Belonging" - what the Bible actually says about being part of a church and in the second class we just get really acquainted with the beliefs and identity of Discovery Church. If you're interested, contact Pastor Cory.
Recent Elder Meeting Minutes
Our elder meetings are always a blessing and encouragement to us. We count it a blessing to be able to gather to pray for our church and pursue God glorifying ministry together. One of the recent blessings was realizing just how encouraging it can be when communication is abundant. One thing we've done to increase communication is hold teacher/volunteer enrichment meetings (one down, hopefully many more to go!). Another thing we've done is invited various ministry leaders into our meetings to encourage them and get their feedback. One more thing we're doing is intentionally publishing our meeting minutes here in the newsletter. You can read those HERE.
