This Sunday's Sermon and Song List
This week's sermon is from Matthew 26:47-27:26. This portion of the "Passion Story" covers the arrest and trials of Jesus leading up to his crucifixion. The particular emphasis in this portion is on the "counsel and wisdom of men" vs. the "counsel and wisdom of God." In this passage we see a lot of human wisdom and where it leads: despair, blindness, arrogance, and loss. Whereas God's wisdom triumphs over human plotting to accomplish His purposes and grant life to all who believe. How do we see the folly of men and the wisdom of God on display in our days? Join us to find out!

Here are the songs we'll be singing together along with a link to a playlist so you can prepare yourself to sing out this Sunday:
  • A Mighty Fortress is Our God (This is an updated version you may have not heard before. Originally written by Martin Luther the song has been translated and updated for the English language over 70 times and into many other languages. Luther was inspired to write the song based on Psalm 46)
  • Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery
  • In Christ Alone
  • Lead Me To The Cross
We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.
Before coming to church PLEASE REMEMBER:
  • If you are sick or experiencing any symptoms please do not come to church. Use caution and seek medical advice instead.
  • If you are in a high-risk category (e.g., compromised immune system, etc.) consult a medical professional that you trust to help make the right decision for you when it comes to public exposure.
  • Don't feel pressured to be back in church or volunteering as usual if you're not ready. If you're wondering how to make a decision about when to get back into a church routine, seek advice from trusted brothers/sisters in Christ, wisdom from God's word, and listen to your conscience.
  • Remember that masks are available in the church building if you want one. We will not bind the conscience when it comes to masks but we are happy to provide them for any and all that would like one.
*NURSERY and CHILDREN'S CHURCH NOW AVAILABLE! Both nursery and Children's Church volunteers will continue to abide by safe and sanitary procedures when caring for all the children in their care.
Adult Sunday School Class
If you haven't watched the promo for the new marriage study we're doing on Sunday morning CHECK THAT OUT HERE. It's a short burst of really plain, biblical teaching then informal discussion with each other. Sunday School starts at 9:00AM every Sunday.
On October, 25th @6:00PM everyone is invited to a fellowship meal followed by a testimony from Pastor Jon Hawkins on how the gospel saves and sustains marriages. Jon Hawkins is a close friend of Pastor Cory and is currently a Pastor at Arbor Drive Community Church in York, Nebraska. He's a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological seminary and host of the Pastor's Discussions Podcast. He is married to Carlee and father to Finleigh, Ainsleigh and Olivia. Join us for this time of fellowship and prepare your heart to be encouraged in your marriage through the gospel of Jesus Christ! Childcare provided.
We want to bless our community with an open story time, free hot chocolate, and access to really good books by solid, Christian authors. So, from 11:00-Noon on October 31st at Gathering Grounds we will be reading selections from really amazing Christian books or books by Christian authors, serving hot chocolate and giving kids a chance to win a free book to take home. Spread the word and let us know if you want to volunteer to lend a hand!
Family Pastor Search Update: The elders and search team will be entering into a phase of the search involving interviews over ZOOM. Lord willing, those interviews will be conducted by the end of October. We have received many impressive applications and are encouraged that the LORD will send us the right man for Discovery in His good time. If you missed our initial informational meeting about this search you can watch a RECAP HERE.

Wednesday Night Adult Class
1 Corinthians: Challenging Church, Loving Church
Here's the description from our study guide through 1 Corinthians: Challenging Church, Loving Church
"If you're part of a church, you've probably got some good reasons to be disappointed or frustrated...It's not surprising. Churches say they have the best news on earth...and yet often our churches don't live or work as if those things are true. We're too possessive of small things, and too casual about great ones. Too defensive of our interests, and too often ignoring God.
And that's what the church in first-century Corinth was like. It was young, confident, full of life - and just as full of problems. What would God say to them? What did they need to be excited by, to listen to, to learn? How did they need to live and work together as God's people?"
Sounds pretty interesting right? Come check it out!

Membership Class, OCTOBER 18th & 25th, 9:00AM
We want everyone in Yankton to belong to a gospel-preaching, Christ-centered church! If you think Discovery might be that church for you then you should check out our two part membership class. In one class we just talk about "Biblical Belonging" - what the Bible actually says about being part of a church and in the second class we just get really acquainted with the beliefs and identity of Discovery Church.
