Dear Church School Friends,

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

Is there anyone who doesn't delight in a rainbow? I mean, honestly – setting aside God's promise after the flood, rainbow's are relatively uncommon and always a surprise. Then, make it a double rainbow. That's what a room full of Episcopal nerds gathered outside the hotel dining room to see this past Tuesday night as we finished our first full day of meetings in San Francisco.

In this Easter season, this delight feels especially fitting. This season resounds with the greatest news: God's promise is not just to preserve our earthly life, but to ensure our eternal life through the Risen Christ.

I hope you've all had a wonderful Spring Break and as Spring continues to emerge at home (this weird 30-something degree situation aside), the world calls us into the wonder of resurrection. Don't walk past it or through it. Pay attention. It doesn't need to take a double rainbow, though I'm glad to share this one with you.

Join us this Sunday at 9:15 for breakfast and our Eastertide Faithful Families session. We'll equip our home prayer spaces for the rest of Easter and the move through Pentecost to Ordinary Time and share a special storybook packed with liturgical insights.

I wonder what you need to make your space just right for the next season?

Primary Godly Play (PreK-Gr.3 ): Jesus & the Women, pt. 1

The first Godly Play story I ever heard began like this, "On the first Sunday in Easter, we remember the women." I vividly recall my mentor Christen presenting the first Knowing Jesus in a New Way plaque to the chapel of young children that Spring morning 12 years ago. We didn't have this new story, Jesus & the Women, back then.

The women are with Jesus at the center of Easter morning, but there are many other women who made Jesus's ministry possible. Unlike 'the Twelve,' they don't all get names or complete stories, but they were essential. They preached and prayed, fed and funded this work. And in those first days, they showed up in the midst of the fear. This week, our primary classroom will hear about the named women, all of whom were essential and intimate players in Jesus's life.

Upper Elementary Godly Play (Gr. 4-7): Jesus & the Twelve

We talk a lot about Jesus's disciples, those passionate, nervous, complicated guys who followed him throughout his earthly ministry – but who were they really?

This week, we'll dig in on the stories of the Twelve, the men who surrounded Jesus. Why these men? How did they come to follow and serve in these days?
