CiTY Newsletter - August 3, 2020
We hope our CiTY players, coaches, and families are safe and healthy, and enjoying summer, though it probably looks much different than usual for many of us. CiTY staff and coaches have been working both behind the scenes and on the field with travel teams to develop our players on and off the field. We are moving forward with plans for a fall travel season, as well as Fall REC , Healthy Play with CiTY activities and resources (including mental wellness), and virtual training opportunities using apps such as Footy and Top Tekkers. Keep your eye out for more information on these opportunities as we navigate this last month before school starts. We have received lots of questions, feedback, and ideas regarding the fall with CiTY, and we appreciate the active dialogue amongst our CiTY community. The lines of communication are always open, so please continue to engage and CiTY will enter the 2020-21 seasonal year as strong as ever!
Return to Play - Updated August 1, 2020

CiTY has been working diligently to get our players back on the field safely as we follow MSRR phases. We have also put procedures in place in the event of positive COVID-19 test results in the CiTY community. Up-to-date CiTY Return to Play procedures are posted on the COVID-19 Updates and Resources page on our website.

Registration is Open

CiTY Fall 2020 REC will resume this fall, with practices at Chapelgate on Tuesdays and games on Saturdays. Additionally, Top Tekkers, an exciting new app geared for our young players, will be available to CiTY REC participants. CiTY REC is open to players in pre-K through 6th grade. Register for CiTY REC here.

CiTY Special Needs Program will resume this fall, though will likely look different than clinics that we've done in the past. As we make plans and develop ideas to engage our Special Needs players and families this fall, register here so we know of your interest and can keep you updated on decisions. CiTY Special Needs program is open to young athletes aged 5-18. Mentor/volunteer registration will be communicated when plans are finalized. Players can register for CiTY Special Needs Program here.

Get On the Bus (GOTB) - MD Update

Unfortunately with the closure of schools and sports this past spring, GOTB was unable to run in Howard County schools as planned after the generosity of donors from our CiTY community in 2019. The good news is that since all the GOTB participants had already been selected and fitted for their uniforms, we plan to distribute tops, cleats, and balls to these kids so that they have what they need to practice soccer at home or play in their neighborhoods. GOTB will still make a difference for those kids and GOTB staff is working hard to make sure the bus rolls again!

Practice your skills with Rec Director, Wade Whitney

CiTY's all-star coaching staff includes our Director of Recreation, Wade Whitney, an All-American who played Division 1 (NC State) and pro soccer. Coach Wade has traveled the world coaching youth soccer and CiTY is lucky to have him as Director of Recreation. Coach Wade has developed a series of short videos demonstrating skills that any player can practice individually. These videos are appropriate for rec level and up, so grab your soccer ball and practice these moves!

Thanks for supporting CiTY, and as always, feel free to reach out to CiTY Leadership with any questions or concerns.
