Today is Learn About Butterflies Day. There are over 17,500 species of butterflies. Found on every continent except Antarctica, butterflies come in a vast range of sizes, colors, and patterns. The Monarch butterfly's migration is one of the most spectacular. Monarch butterflies travel up to 3,000 miles from North America to central Mexico every fall but monarch numbers are declining rapidly. One way you can help monarchs is by planting native milkweed which is the sole food source for monarch caterpillars.
