Welcome Four Asian Elephants

Our elephant herd just got a lot bigger! Four Asian elephants, two adult females and their young male calves, arrived at the Zoo on Sunday, and are settling into their new digs in Elephant Trek, the largest habitat that the Zoo’s ever built. The new elephants, SheRa, Kabir, Anak, and Sanjay, came from the Dublin Zoo on a joint recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Asian Elephant Species Survival Plan® (SSP) and its equivalent in the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), the Endangered Ex-situ program (EEP), which make breeding and transfer decisions with the goal to sustain a genetically diverse, demographically varied, and biologically sound population.

Winter Zoo Camp

Brrrr, Old Man Witner is starting to show his face, which means its nearly time for our annual Winter Camp. This winter, we're exploring the frosty depths of animal survival to the cold. Whether its a thick fur coat, a slab of flab, or retiring to the sunshine for a few months, our wild friends have as many adaptations to the cold as there are animal friends!
