Facility Dog, Braxton
Helping Kids Braxton makes the perfect addition
You may know Braxton as the father of several Circle Tail litters. This year, he was placed as a Facility Dog at Endeavor Elementary in the Lakota School District. His handler writes, "Braxton is LOVING his job! He walks in bright and early every morning excited to go about his schedule. He starts out greeting teachers as they stop in the office. Sometimes he even attends their professional development classes (but he usually naps through them!).
When the kids arrive at 8 am, he greets them in the hallways. On testing days, he spends more time with any of the students who are nervous that morning. Then he goes to several classrooms and visits with groups of students while they work. Sometimes he goes to Occupational Therapy class, and especially likes to lay down on the mini trampoline or fetch a ball that a student rolls to him. Braxton also spends part of each day working with the school counselor, especially when students request Braxton to be present for their session. If any student is having a bad day, Mrs. Webber will radio Braxton’s handlers to bring him to the office to see if he can assist. Sometimes students read to him, or share stories they have written. (Some of the kids think when he sighs really loud, they need to use more interesting language or make their story more exciting!)
Braxton often visits recess and enjoys it as the kids run up for some petting or gather around to watch him do his 'tricks.' After recess, Braxton goes for a 'hurry' break with two teachers who volunteer their lunch time for his daily walk. After a quick nap, he usually finds another class to attend before dismissal. He greets the students who walk home as they leave school each day. Then he turns in for a long nap on his comfy pillow bed while Mrs. Webber finishes up her paperwork.
He’s the perfect addition to the Rocket Family, and we love him so much!"
