Bonnie and Service Dog, Dargo
Since being partnered with Dargo a few months ago, my life has drastically changed for the better. I knew that being paired with a service dog would be a big change, but I didn’t know just how big it would be. The littlest things make the biggest impact; Dargo helps me retrieve things I’ve dropped, thus reducing my fall risk and pain. Dargo walks next to me, setting an even pace, improving my gait, and giving me better spatial awareness. Dargo is constantly watching me, even when he is “off the clock”. He could be in the middle of enjoying a Kong (his very favorite treat), and he will still pop his head up every few minutes to look at me and “check in”. I’ve been able to take short walks around our neighborhood alone for the first time in almost 8 years. Dargo being with me has increased my confidence, my safety, and my sense of self-worth. I am incredibly lucky, and incredibly privileged to be partnered with Dargo, and I’m excited to see what the future brings for the both of us.
