On Saturday I was at St Luke's Memorial in Tacoma for the Deacons Gathering. It was my first time to sit with this group. I was there to present but the best part was the discussion with the community of deacons, the bishop and myself - engaging, passionate and eye-opening for me.
On Sunday I was in Bellingham to be with the good folks of St Paul's. My thanks to the Rev. Rachel Endicott for the invitation. I preached both services. I also did a presentation on multicultural ministries for about 20 folks. They had lots of questions and comments. It was a great discussion.
After my normal day off on Monday and a little additional rest on Tuesday morning, I met with the Latino/Hispanic Circulo de Color in the evening. I shared a bit of convention news and the discussion was around Sacred Ground and communities of color. I was back at D-House on Wednesday. The Full Circle met on Wednesday. Both Wednesday and Thursday included interviews with applicants for the Program Coordinator position. Please note that no further applications are now being received for the position.
On Thursday evening I was at St Matthew’s Browns Point for the Welcoming Liturgy for Fr. Hilary Njoroge to celebrate the transferring of his orders from the Anglican Church of Kenya to The Episcopal Church. The Rev. Kendall Haynes, St Matthew’s rector was the preacher and Bishop Rickel presided. The congregation also took that opportunity to honor Bishop Rickel and to thank him for his leadership of our diocese. A reception followed, featuring Kenyan cuisine, to cap off this joyful celebration.
