Kinsley Crews Are Still Busy!

While work on the actual library site nears completion, road access and installation of necessary infrastructure is moving briskly along. The new Higbee Lane has been mapped out and flagged for paving, and installation of sanitary sewer, which will whisk the water from our library out for treatment, is complete.
According to Travis (on the left) and John (on the right), two of Kinsley's very best "pipe guys," installation of our storm sewer system which will capture and redirect rainwater to our shared retention pond is "almost done."
Who are these hard-headed, hard-hatted ladies checking out the site and taking selfies? They are very excited that the second (and final!) bid opening to select a contractor to build the new library is currently scheduled for Wednesday,
June 23rd at the pavilion at Morgan's Grove Park.
Ready to Come Back Inside the Library?

We are very pleased to announce that starting on Tuesday, June 1, we will be reopening our doors to limited patron visits in 15-minute increments by appointment only.

Click here to schedule your visit. Under "Book Now," you can select from three options: visit the Children’s Department, visit the Adult Department, or use the downstairs public computer. Then select your date (June 1 or later), and the time of your visit. To remain anonymous, you may enter your library card number instead of your name.

For now, one family of up to four members may visit upstairs for one 15-minute period per week. Downstairs, two related adults at a time may browse and check out for 15 minutes. There will be one computer workstation available for a single
15-minute appointment. Required for entry: masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizing. Please call us at (304) 876-2783 if you have questions or need help scheduling your appointment.

Book your visit now - we are looking forward to seeing you!
Save this Very
Important Date!

Join us on Saturday, July 17th from 1:30 to 4:00 pm at Morgan's Grove Park for the FOSL Annual Meeting and Shepherdstown Public Library Community Picnic in Partnership with Parks and Rec "Bookmark the Parks!"

Plans include snacks and beverages; many, many activities and story times for children and young adults, including tie-dye t-shirts; book trivia, possible photo booth, prizes, raffles, and more! Plus, representatives from the library's architectural firm and, hopefully, our selected building contractor will be in attendance to provide project updates and answer questions.
This will be a great opportunity to sign up to be a FOSL member! If you love the library, you will love being a part of this amazing group - they are our champions!
Amazing Turnout for our
Shred Event!

During our Saturday Shred Event, we shredded 17 loads which totals more than 4,600 pounds!

Our thanks to All-Shred MD, especially Gary, their driver, for his friendly assistance and our wonderful Sarah Brumback (both featured left) for organizing this event. And, special thanks to FOSL for its sponsorship and to everyone who turned out to have their documents expertly shredded. As a happy side note, the library received over $900 in donations from grateful participants.

Stay tuned for information on future shredding events!
Speaking of Sarah, we are so pleased to announce that she has completed her internship at the Scarborough Library and is in the process of finishing one final paper and two short assignments before completing her MLIS degree! Her virtual graduation ceremony will be on May 20th!
We are so proud of her!

Thank You, Rotarians!

Our Children's Department was recently awarded a $300 Rotary Reads Grant from the Rotary Club of Shepherdstown to help fund materials for the library's summer reading program. "The Rotary Reads grant program is one of several Club activities aimed at enhancing literacy among local children. It consists of cash grants, awarded annually, to worthy institutions for projects or programs that promote reading."
Summer Reading Program 2021!

Our Summer Reading Program will kick off on Saturday June 5th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm! Join us behind the library (weather permitting) as we begin our annual celebration of reading. All ages - from lap babies to adults - are encouraged to sign up. This year’s theme is Tails & Tales, and we plan to share our favorite animal-themed stories. Throughout the summer, we will be providing many opportunities for kids and parents to learn about real animals with help from our partners at PVAS and WV Eastern Panhandle Beekeepers Association. Kids will also get a chance to be an animal during our animal yoga class with Jala Yoga.
And, regular in-person story times will be returning!

Plus, we are coordinating an animal food collection drive for the Animal Welfare Society!

And, so much more – stay tuned for more details!
