Dear Citadel Families,

2013 has been historical as two clubs who have competed fiercely both on and off the field have come together to create something special for the soccer community in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas.  The Directors and Board members of Citadel and Fever have created the foundation for a premier soccer club that gives soccer players of all skill levels and desires a place to play and grow in the game of soccer and as future leaders.  Together we will have a strong financial foundation, an incredible network of alumni, access to quality facilities, and one of best coaching staffs in the region.

Over the past several months, we have looked for ways to strengthen Citadel for the future and have determined that a combination of the two premier organizations in the area delivers the most opportunity and value for our players and families.  As a combined club - Fort Wayne United - we will have a network of over 1000 players from recreation to travel.  Our levels will include:

  • Academy: Teams that will compete against the best talent regionally and nationally and will be comprised of the top talent  in the area.
  • Elite: Teams that will compete at the premier state level and/or at 2nd tier regional and national competitions.  These players will be competing to get opportunities to play at the Academy level and will receive similar benefits as an Academy player.
  • Premier: Teams that will compete at the state level, but training will be less demanding and will have less travel than the Elite and Academy teams.  In addition, fees at this level will be lower than current Citadel fees.
  • Fort Wayne United Cadets: Pre-travel program that gives players a chance to be trained by professionals at a recreational price.
  • Wee Bear Programs:  For youth 6 years old and younger to experience the joy of the game while learning skills that will help them on the pitch as they grow older.

United, our players will continue to enjoy success both on and off the pitch.  Combined we have 80+ players playing at the collegiate level and over $4 million in college scholarships have been provided to our players.  Not only have former players gone on to play at the national and international level, many have become business leaders, teachers, and other professionals where leadership and teamwork skills needed on the pitch have served them well in life after soccer.  We will have the best coaching staff with the most college coaches, the most USSF 'A' or NSCAA National licensed coaches, and DOCs with over 50 years of proven experience with youth sports in the area.

Combined our clubs will be a tremendous asset in support of the local community.  We will host 6-8 indoor tournaments, 2 outdoor tournaments, and 3 or more state or regional league or tournament weekends that combined bring over 5,000 people to the city.  The club will have a Scrip program that helps support local businesses and lowers the cost of travel.  In addition, we will continue to support our community in the fight against breast cancer, with Operation Christmas Child, by providing equipment for underprivileged soccer youth overseas, and by providing for other worthy causes that support the game of soccer or simply those in need.

In recent months the Executive Board of Directors, the Citadel Operations Team (known as the Board), the Coaching Directors, and the coaches have all supported, by a wide margin, the discussions to bring the clubs together.  Indiana Youth Soccer leaders and local soccer leaders are also in support of the merger.  The united club will offer its members more opportunities to play, train, and enjoy the beautiful game.  We hope you evaluate the additional benefits the combined club provides, and join us with your support of the new Fort Wayne United Futbol Club.

Fort Wayne United Futbol Club

  • A five person board of directors (3 Fever and 2 Citadel) dealing with the business of the not for profit soccer club.  A 4/5 vote will be required for any major decisions (DOC changes, capital expenditures, by-law changes, etc.)
  • Club colors of neon green, black, and white.  Citadel Families will get a discount of $60-$100 off the cost of the new uniforms since we just purchased new uniforms this past year.  Amount will be determined by the Citadel Executive Board at the end of the season, based on the cash balance of the club.
  • A crest that combines both clubs.
  • A professional administrative staff which allows for more timely communication as well as more fee payment options and takes the burden off of volunteers to handle collections.
  • Prime access to both indoor and outdoor facilities for all teams.  Training schedules will be announced sooner which will help with planning the family schedule.
  • Larger, more competitive local tournaments as we combine our efforts.
  • Both US Youth Soccer and US Club affiliations.
  • Director of Coaching Academy - Bobby Poursanidis
  • Director of Coaching Elite & Premier - Paco Castillo
  • Youth Technical Director - Alan Bodenstein
  • Coaching Education and Mentoring Leader - TBD (leading candidate is a Citadel Coach)
  • Goal Keeper Technical Director - Mitch Ellisen
  • Combined tryouts for all levels.
  • Multiple tiers of teams allowing players to be rewarded by playing up a level via the club pass system.
  • Academy fees will be similar to current Fever fees and include 2 indoor leagues, performance training, 3 training sessions per week in Fall and Spring as well as 2 training sessions in the winter.
  • Elite fees will be slightly less than Academy but still include 2 indoor leagues, performance training, 3 training sessions per week in the Fall and Spring as well as 2 training sessions in the winter.
  • Premier fees will be slightly less or similar to current Citadel fees and include 1 indoor league, 2 training sessions per week in the Fall and Spring as well as 1 training session in the winter.  Teams will have the option to choose additional training for a reasonable cost.

Both Citadel and Fever are distinguished by our proud histories and look forward to a new chapter as one of the premier clubs in the Midwest.  Thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

Sincerely,
The Directors and Executive Board
