Citizens Only Voting

Dear friends,

I am so excited!!!

Did you hear the news that it looks like the Citizens Only Voting (COV) petition drive ballot initiative has enough signatures to get this question on the ballot?! This is phenomenal! I am the only Secretary of State candidate that hosted events for this effort. This cause is very personal to me.

Currently, there is nothing in the Michigan Constitution that clarifies and requires that you must be a US Citizen to vote in Michigan elections. Can you believe it?!

But if we can get this ballot initiative passed in November, it is going to remove any ambiguity - and close any loopholes - to make a US Citizen status a requirement to vote in Michigan.

Friends, this is NOT a partisan or controversial issue. In fact, roughly 80% of Americans surveyed consistently over the years approve of showing Voter ID and ensuring those who vote are citizens.

Only SOS Candidate Participating

I am proud to have been the only candidate for Michigan Secretary of State to host and organize a COV event.

Yes, I had to take time away from my campaign. But this matters deeply to me.

At the events I hosted, we were able to collect hundreds of signatures to contribute to the cause.

I hosted these events in three areas of Michigan:

#1 - January 22: I hosted one in Macomb County

#2 - January 30: I partnered with Laura Perry for State Representative in Monroe

#3 - February 7: Finally on the last formal day of collection, I partnered with Brian Ignatowski for State Representative in Livingston County

If you still have petitions with completed signatures, please finish them and return them to the COV organizers as soon as possible!

Do not remove the back of the petition. The petition must remain in tact.
Don't try to fill the empty lines with signatures after you have completed and dated the circulator portion.

You are Making a Difference

Thanks to everyone who participated statewide in the Citizens Only Voting effort. You should be very proud of your efforts as you faithfully pursue making our elections secure.

There will likely be legal challenges and a few more hoops, but I believe this will wind up on the ballot in November of 2026.

With your help, we will get it passed in the fall and it will make our elections even more secure for the future!
