City Proclamation - Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
The City of El Paso Council recognizes the efforts of the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence, in partnership with area school districts, by raising awareness and providing training for teachers and counselors, and school staff so that they may recognize when youth are exhibiting signs of dating violence.
They also provide young people with education about healthy relationships and relationship skills that help change attitudes that support violence to help them recognize that dating violence can be prevented.

City Invites Public to Review Draft of Downtown,
Uptown El Paso Plan

The City of El Paso invites the community to a public meeting to provide feedback on the initial draft recommendation of the El Paso Downtown + Uptown Plan.
The plan will guide future growth and development for downtown, the heart of El Paso, and its adjacent neighborhoods. Public engagement is essential to defining areas of focus for the plan’s efforts.
Residents may participate in the meeting in person or virtually.

Funding Available for Nonprofit Service Providers to Benefit Low-to-Moderate Income Residents | |
Funds are available to nonprofit agencies that assist low to moderate income residents. Projects are funded by federal and state entities.

City of El Paso Names 38-Year Police Veteran
as Interim Police Chief

On February 3rd, the City of El Paso is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Pacillas as the City’s Interim Police Chief.
Pacillas, who has been serving as Assistant Police Chief since 2009, graduated from the El Paso Police Academy in 1988 and has served in all ranks within the Police Department. Chief Pacillas has a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University.
The next step in the final selection process for the Police Chief will be to conduct a national search, which will include the opportunity for local leadership to apply.

Native El Pasoan to Lead City of El Paso’s
New Climate and Sustainability Office

On February 3rd, the City of El Paso is pleased to announce the creation of its Office of Climate and Sustainability, and the appointment of Nicole Alderete-Ferrini as the City’s Climate and Sustainability Officer.
As the Climate and Sustainability Officer, Ferrini will work to address the specific impacts of the global climate crisis as they relate to the urban desert environment and vulnerable populations of the Chihuahuan Desert while ensuring consistent and transparent collaboration, inclusive of all stakeholders assuring tangible results and appropriate public accountability.

Sun Metro Improving Service Delivery by Replacing Aging Technology
Sun Metro will be replacing ticket vending machines that have outlived their useful life
The project will take about two weeks to complete and will impact ticket vending machines at the following Sun Metro locations:

While the work is in progress, passengers can purchase tickets at the fare boxes inside buses, on the Ride Sun Metro App, at ticket vending machines along Brio routes, and inside the Downtown, Northgate, Mission Valley and Upper East Side transit centers.
