CARPLS Honors Memorial Day
The IL-AFLAN Hotline is here to help veterans, service members, and their families with housing, employment, consumer issues, and more.

"Fred," a veteran, called the IL-AFLAN hotline because he was in the middle of a multi-year dispute over pension benefits. The CARPLS attorney provided clear and concise legal advice and helped the client in preparing his presentation to the appeal board. They ultimately waived the pension debt.

Fred said, "The success of our case could not have been accomplished without the IL-AFLAN attorney and team. The attorney had an immediate grasp of the complex issues and provided clear and concise legal advice. I cannot reiterate how important IL-AFLAN services are to veterans. The overwhelming positive news was much needed during these COVID-19 times. Thank you, IL AFLAN!”

A Reflection From CARPLS'
Racial Justice Committee Members
Martin Luther King said in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech on December 11, 1964:

“The richer we have become materially, the poorer we become morally and spiritually. We have learned to fly in the air like birds and swim in the sea like fish, but we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers.”

Martin Luther King is often quoted, but the death of George Floyd at the hands of police is a recent milestone in thinking about where the country stands in confronting its racist history.

Last year, CARPLS staff came together and formed the CARPLS Racial Justice Committee (RJC) to identify ways to better educate ourselves, think about the way we provide services and to improve the legal system we work in.
Emergency Rental Assistance Program
Applications are now open for the Chicago Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) through June 8. Assistance will cover up to 12 months of missed rent and utility payments, and up to three months of future rent and utility payments.

For help with the application, call the ERAP Call Center at (312) 698-0202, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
