Lincoln Magnet "Tackle Team"
Lands Governor's Cup In State's Annual Hometown Award
Students at Lincoln Magnet School represented Springfield in the Governor's 2025 Annual Hometown Awards, winning the Governor's Cup for their community-based project to help senior citizens avoid scams. The school entered in partnership with the City of Springfield and made to the finals against 40 other community applications.
The school's Beta Club entered the project "Fishing Tales & Bytes of Wisdom," which took students to regularly visit retirement and assisted living homes in partnership with the YMCA of Springfield to spend time, build relationships, but also educate seniors about phishing scams, fraudulent emails and online safety. Their program has seen such success it is being replicated across the state at higher level schools and universities.

City Water, Light and Power compiled a timeline of what came before the plans to build Lake Springfield and what is to current among major milestones in honor of its 90th year.
It was after midnight on May 2nd of 1935 when Lake Springfield reached full pool (560 feet above sea level) and shortly after the first water spilled or splashed over the dam. Over the next few years, aside from a Lakeside Power Plant and Water Plant, Lake Springfield and its marginal lands will include two dams, six highway bridges, one railroad bridge, two beaches, a beach house, several public parks, boat docks and fishing piers, miles of scenic roadway, lakeside cottages, a number of clubs and camps, a wildlife preserve, and a nature garden.
