Springfield Fire Department and Medics First Announce Deployment of New Life-Saving Technology
Today, the Springfield Fire Department, in collaboration with Medics First, held a press conference to announce the deployment of the groundbreaking ResQCPR™ System, a new technology designed to enhance survival rates for those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA remains the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming over 1,000 lives each day. With national survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests hovering below 10%, Springfield is taking strides to improve these odds for its residents.
The ResQCPR™ System, created by ZOLL® Medical Corporation, is the only FDA-approved CPR device on the market that has shown a significant improvement in survival outcomes. Studies indicate that patients who receive CPR with this device have a 49% greater chance of one-year survival compared to traditional CPR techniques.
Medics First has successfully used the ResQCPR™ System for over two years, achieving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival rate that more than doubles the national average. Beginning in November 2024, this advanced life-saving technology will be deployed citywide in Springfield, thanks to Medics First’s generous donation. There will be no cost to taxpayers for this initiative.

Cyber Crime Awareness Month: The Springfield Police Department Launches "Don't Put Your Assets in Jeopardy"
In honor of Cyber Crime Awareness Month, the Springfield Police Department is proud to launch our "Don't Put Your Assets in Jeopardy" campaign. As online crimes continue to rise, protecting yourself from scams and fraud is more critical than ever. Throughout the month, we share valuable tips and information to help you safeguard your personal and financial data.
Here are some essential tips to keep in mind:
Tip #1 Never share personal or financial information in response to unsolicited calls, emails, or pop-ups. Always verify the identity of the individual or organization by contacting them directly through official channels.
Tip #2 No legitimate law enforcement or federal agent will ask for payments in Bitcoin, gift cards, or gold bars. If you're asked to pay in any of these ways, it's a scam.
Tip #3 Law enforcement will not come to your home to collect money. If someone claims an officer will pick up payment, it's a red flag. Do not engage.
Tip #4 Don't fall for pressure tactics. Scammers often use fear—like threats of arrest or fines—to create urgency. Take a moment to verify the situation before responding.
If you or someone you know has been targeted by a scam, report it immediately to the dedicated Cyber Crime Hotline: 217-416-2993
This Cyber Crime Awareness Month, stay informed, stay calm, and remember: don't let cybercriminals put your assets in jeopardy.

U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, and U.S. Representative Nikki Budzinski have announced that Springfield will receive $157 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the final segment of the Springfield Rail Improvements Project (SRIP)!
This multi-phased project made possible through local, state, and federal collaboration, will reduce rail congestion downtown by moving train traffic from Third Street to 10th Street and adding overpasses and underpasses along the corridor.
The final phase of SRIP will mean smoother traffic flow, less noise, and enhanced safety for residents and visitors. We're excited about the progress this will bring our community—stay tuned for more updates on this transformational project!
