Last Thursday, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) - in a 12 to 0 vote - elected to fund local road improvements instead of closing the 4.5 mile SR-710 gap between Alhambra and Pasadena. One of five options proposed by Metro staff, these improvements (known as the "Transportation System Management/Transportation Demand Management" option) would channel $105 million of Measure R funds to develop and implement local road improvements within the San Gabriel Valley.

Community celebrates Public Works Day with demonstrations, food and giveaways
Last Thursday, the Public Works Department celebrated Public Works Day with a free barbecue lunch, equipment demonstrations and giveaways for local community residents. The event, which took place at Vincent Lugo Park, was held to commemorate Public Works Day - a nationwide day meant to highlight the difficult work that goes into maintaining infrastructure across the country.
The event also featured several booths from local utilities and contractors that serve San Gabriel, including Southern California Edison, the San Gabriel Humane Society, Athens Services, West Coast Arborists and the San Gabriel County Water District. Dozens of schoolchildren and local residents were on hand to interact with our Public Works staff.
