Good Evening,
After five years of construction, the San Gabriel trench welcomed its inaugural train service earlier this week. Once complete, the trench will reduce traffic congestion, improve safety and cut pollution caused by idling vehicles. Full train service in the trench is expected soon.

In other news, the city will be hosting two events this Thursday - a concert at Vincent Lugo Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. featuring The L.A. Misfits, and a community meeting that will deal with the issue of mansionization within the community beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Room.

As always, please share this issue with your friends and family, and be sure to follow the city's social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, WeChat and Weibo to keep up-to-date on community news and events!
San Gabriel trench welcomes inaugural train service in media ceremony
Full train service from Union Pacific and Amtrak expected soon
Earlier this week, the San Gabriel trench welcomed its inaugural train service at a media ceremony held on the Mission Road bridge. While full train service has yet to begin, the trench's inaugural train signals the nearing completion of a five-year project that sought to mitigate the impact of rail line traffic on the community.

City Council holds first reading of historic preservation ordinance
A second reading will be held at the next council meeting
Chapman's Mill, which was relocated and preserved
during construction for the San Gabriel trench
With a new historic ordinance now headed for a second reading at the next City Council meeting on August 15, San Gabriel will soon feature one of the most comprehensive historical ordinances in the region. Read how the city's new ordinance aims to preserve and protect San Gabriel's unique history by clicking here.

Editor's note: last week's issue of City Beat incorrectly noted that the City Council approved the second reading of the historic preservation and cultural resource ordinance. The City Council actually held the first reading of the ordinance during July 18's session. The second reading is scheduled for August 15. We apologize for the error.
