State of the City address to be held on October 19

Planning Commission approves three items of business
On Monday, the Planning Commission approved three new items of business, including parking reductions for a medical condominium project and a restaurant, along with the approval of a ten-unit condominium development.

Veterans Day tribute and luncheon to be held October 25
The San Gabriel Rotary Club and the city to honor veterans
On October 25, the San Gabriel Rotary Club and the city will honor our nation's veterans during the annual Veterans Day Tribute and Luncheon. This year's celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. and will conclude by 1:00 p.m. at Grapevine Arbor Park. Lunch will be provided for residents who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. A reservation is required for lunch.

SGFD to hold disaster preparedness class on October 14
The class will run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The San Gabriel Fire Department will be holding a disaster preparedness class on October 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 1303 South Del Mar Avenue on how to prepare in the event of an emergency. Course material, refreshments and a free gift will be provided.

Kiwanis to hold police and firefighter appreciation lunch November 9
Lunch will honor local firefighters and police
To honor those who protect our community, the Kiwanis Club of San Gabriel will be holding an appreciation lunch on November 9 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the San Gabriel Hilton Hotel restaurant.

To attend, please RSVP by November 6 at 626.695.8891 or email [email protected]. Lunch for members of the San Gabriel Police Department, San Gabriel Fire Department and veterans will be free. For all others, there will be a $15 lunch fee per person.

Fall at the Mission Playhouse
Several free screenings and concerts for the fall season
The staff at the Mission Playhouse would like to wish everyone a very happy first week of fall!

This season, the Playhouse has several great events coming up, including free screenings of "Scooby Doo", "Tom & Jerry" and the Looney Tunes Halloween cartoons followed by a free screening of "Beetlejuice" - all on October 27. In addition, a Dia de Los Muertos-themed concert with Mariachi Los Camperos will be held on October 28. Finally, the next film in the Silent Sundays series - "The Kid" starring Charlie Chaplin - will be held on November 19.

A look north at the Ramona Street crossing at Main Street
Please be advised that the Mission Road crossing over the trench will be closed from October 2 to November 7. Construction crews will re-profile the roadway, remove the temporary railroad tracks and perform paving work along the crossing.

In the meantime, please be advised that the railway crossings at Ramona Street and Del Mar Avenue will remain closed prior to the closure of the Mission Road crossing.
