Wastewater Treatment Facility Plan Public Hearing

Our Wastewater Treatment Facility, located near He Mni Can-Barn Bluff along the river, will soon require major upgrades to address its aging infrastructure and meet future standards. The improvements are crucial so the facility can continue its vital work of protecting our health and the environment by removing contaminants from our community's wastewater. It's an extensive, multi-year project that every resident should be informed about. Find out more at a public hearing during the January 26 City Council meeting. You'll have the opportunity to share comments before the City Council votes on adopting the Wastewater Treatment Facility Plan. Delve into more information about the plan and the project on our website, and stay informed on the process.

Giving Pedestrian Safety a Step Up

Pedestrian crossing at Plum and Main Street intersection

One simple change could soon make a big difference for walkers crossing the busy Plum and Main Street intersection. Last night, the City Council directed staff to ask the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to add a system that would give pedestrians a head start on crossing. After a pedestrian presses the crossing button on either side of Main Street, the next crossing signal will activate 3 to 4 seconds before vehicles on Plum Street get a green light. This allows people crossing the street to be more visible to drivers turning from Plum onto Main. It's a low-cost solution that can be done relatively quickly by MnDOT, which is responsible for the signal. The system is expected to be ready and available for pedestrians to use this spring or summer.

Resolve to Recycle Responsibly

New Recycling Calendars Available

Do you rely on neighbors' carts at the curb to tell you it's recycling week? Find your 2026 recycling collection dates on our website instead. Schedules are listed by zone, and if you're not sure which zone you live in, maps on the page will show you.

No circle symbol over a plastic bag

To start the new year off right, make this one easy resolution: don't put plastic bags in your curbside recycling cart – not even to bag up good recyclable material. Instead, put plastic bags in the trash or, better yet, take them to a local retailer that offers plastic bag recycling receptacles. It's one simple way to contribute to a greener 2026.
