Police department launches new
District Lieutenants Program
Program will provide better police access for residents
In the coming weeks, you might be seeing more of your local lieutenant from the San Gabriel Police Department visiting your neighborhood. That's because of a new initiative launched by the department that will provide better access for residents.

City to install filters on 426 catch basins
Filters will help prevent trash from entering the LA River
Soon, 426 catch basins in the city will be retrofitted with new filter screens that will prevent trash from entering into the storm water system. Known as connector pipe screens, these screens will be placed in front of large storm water drainage pipes that lead into the Los Angeles River.

DUI/Driver's license checkpoint planned for August 25
Checkpoint will run from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
The San Gabriel Police Department's traffic unit will be conducting a DUI/driver's license checkpoint this Friday at an undisclosed location within city limits between 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.

While the checkpoint is in operation, officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment along with proper licensing for drivers. More information about the checkpoint can be found here.

Free workshop for artists and art administrators at the Playhouse
Arts Tune-Up will be held on September 16
Are you an artist or an art administrator? Then come to the Mission Playhouse on September 16 at 9:30 a.m. for a free workshop presented by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. The tune-up will include an opportunity to participate in three 40-minute round-table sessions on a variety of topics, including arts advocacy, time management and fundraising.

San Gabriel experiences partial solar eclipse
Many residents witnessed the eclipse at the San Gabriel Library
This past Monday, the San Gabriel Library held a viewing party for the solar eclipse
Last Monday, residents from across the community went to the San Gabriel Library to catch the solar eclipse. While San Gabriel was not in the path of totality, residents were able to see a partial solar eclipse that resembled a crescent moon using special safety visors and pinhole projectors.

Boy Scouts beautify La Casa de San Gabriel
Boy Scouts Troop 266 helped plant new landscaping
Members of Troop 266 and La Casa de San Gabriel
On August 12, Boy Scouts from Troop 266 helped beautify La Casa de San Gabriel by planting new plants and preparing new landscaping. Over 30 scouts and their parents helped remove weeds and dead shrubbery in and around the grounds. In addition, La Casa's garden also received a refresh, with new vegetables planted for the upcoming school year. Nice work, Boy Scouts!
San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre to return to the Playhouse in March 2018
SGVMT will partner with the Playhouse's Engage! program
The San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre is returning to the Mission Playhouse in March 2018 in a new partnership that will present Broadway entertainment for the community. These shows will be presented as part of the Playhouse's Engage! program.

In the meantime, be sure to catch the SGVMT's fall production schedule, which includes "Broadway Goes Hollywood," "Once Upon A Time," and a musical tea party in October. More information can be found on their official website

ACE is reporting that train service is starting to begin inside the trench
CONSTRUCTION NOTICES

Please be advised that the bridge at Ramona Street over the trench will be closed from September 6 to October 4 for approximately 30 days. During this period, the bridge will be milled and overlaid to provide the final street grades and pavement transition to and from the bridge.

In addition, the bridge at Del Mar Avenue will also be closed during the same period, and will include the same type of work being performed on the bridge at Ramona.
