Candidates' Forum set for Feb. 16
Meet the candidates
Be informed! Join your neighbors and friends at a candidates' forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the City of San Gabriel, on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, 7:00 p.m. at the Mission Playhouse.

Seven candidates, including two incumbents, are running for three seats on the City Council. Three candidates are running for City Clerk and one for City Treasurer.

SGPD commemorates fallen officer
On Tuesday, Feb. 7 2017, the San Gabriel Police Department commemorated the 91st anniversary of the killing of one of its own, police officer Elmer H. Griffin. The San Gabriel Police honored the memory of Officer Griffin by laying a beautiful wreath to memorialize his passing beside the bronze plaque in the front of the police station.

Tragically, he was not be the only San Gabriel police officer killed in the line of duty. On Sept. 6, 1933, San Gabriel police officer Alvin W. Haynes was struck and killed by a drunk driver.

City receives CSMFO budget award
For the first time ever, the city's Finance Department received a California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) Budget Award. 

The award recognizes the city for outstanding work on the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Budget. In awarding this recognition, CSMFO evaluators look at a city's budget for transparency, clarity and accessibility.

Free tango event at the Playhouse Plaza

On Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m., come to the Mission Playhouse Plaza for Wine, Dine & Dance, a FREE event. 

Get your dancing feet ready for Valentine's Day with an authentic tango lesson and performance, along with complimentary appetizers and wine tasting, while supplies last. Then, practice what you've learned to the Latin sounds of a live DJ (Mijo Entertainment).

Traffic alert
Vault construction on Mission Drive
Use alternate routes
Nighttime lane closures on Mission Drive and Santa Anita will take place over the next two weeks.  

Southern California Edison contractors will be installing a vault and conduits from Feb. 8 through Feb. 16 between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. 

At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times with flaggers assisting motorists.  Please expect minor delays and use alternate routes when possible.
