Cleaning Up the Mighty Mississippi
Love the Mississippi River? Here's a great chance to show it. We, along with Goodhue County, are challenging communities along the Minnesota stretch of the river to join the Mighty Mississippi Cleanup this spring. But we need your help to succeed. Two simultaneous events will be held locally on Saturday, April 22, at Colvill Park and at Sturgeon Lake Road and County Road 18. All are welcome at both locations. Trash bags are provided, but please bring gloves and closed toed shoes. Help us make this challenge a success, and know the winner is the river.

Community Meeting

Airbnbs, VRBOs, short-term rentals... whatever you call them, here's your chance to voice your thoughts on them in our community. The Advisory Planning Commission is studying Semi-Transient Accommodations uses in Red Wing, with an emphasis on short-term rentals, and they want to hear from you. That's why a community meeting will be held on April 11 to allow residents, businesses, and short-term rental operators to offer their opinions. In the meantime, City Council last night voted to introduce an interim ordinance establishing a 180-day moratorium, or temporary stop, on permits for Semi-Transient Accommodations uses. More discussion is on the way, so make sure to join the conversation.
Honoring Dakota Project
April is almost here; have you marked April 3 and April 13 on your calendars yet? Prairie Island Indian Community is sharing their experiences and traditions with the broader Red Wing community, and we hope you'll join them for these events.

At the We Are All Connected community presentation on April 3, the Prairie Island Education Team will share the story and lessons of the Buffalo that were the foundation to life for the Dakota.

Then on April 13, you can take a tour of the Edwin. W. Buck, Jr. Veteran Memorial Buffalo Project. Learn about the Buffalo farm on Prairie Island and experience the cultural and traditional teachings of our Buffalo relatives.

These events are in partnership with two ongoing projects: The Honoring Dakota Project and Lessons from our Inclusive Economic Stories. Get all the details by visiting the Honoring Dakota website and Facebook page.

All in a Day's Work
Rick Knowlton
A day spent outside is a good day for Rick Knowlton, and fortunately, as someone who's spent most of his 25 years with the City working the parks, days outside are easy to come by. After years working in a body shop, Rick started out at the City working with solid waste, biding his time until he could step into the place he most wanted to be: the parks. With warmer weather on the way, Rick will soon be welcoming summer staff to help him in the downtown parks and enjoying quiet mornings performing pool maintenance at Colvill Park. Rick enjoys the outdoors in his off time too, taking vacations up north, fishing, and bear hunting. Congratulations, Rick on 25 years, and here's to more good days ahead.
