After 14 years with the Red Wing Housing & Redevelopment Authority, Randal Hemmerlin is retiring as Executive Director, and it’s not a retirement without a party! Randal has led the HRA in projects throughout the city that make living in Red Wing more accessible to everyone. The public is welcome to attend Randal’s virtual retirement gathering on Thursday, January 28, from 1-3 p.m. If you’d like to share some well wishes, send an email to kim.odman@ci.red-wing.mn.us to make arrangements to speak during the party. We hope you’ll join the HRA in thanking Randal for his years of service and wishing him well in retirement. Thanks, Randal!

New Housing on the Way

Housing in Red Wing is on the upswing! Last night, City Council approved two requests from the Red Wing HRA. The first allows the HRA to allocate $30,000 from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) to the Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity toward building three new homes in the city over the next three years. The second distributes $45,000 to the AHTF Homebuyers Assistance Program, which helps qualified home buyers. Those funds are available NOW so visit the HRA's website to learn more about the program and how to apply.
New Year, New Recycling Calendar
Image of a yellow sticky note pinned to a calendar that says Take recycling to the curb on um what day is it again
If you've been relying on seeing your neighbors' carts at the curb to know when it's recycling day, we're here to help. 2021 recycling collection calendars for each zone are available on the City's website right now. Even better? They're available as an easy-to-print document with each collection date listed, perfect for sticking to the fridge or wherever your important reminders go. Recycling day reminder made easy--no neighbors required!
An Update on Downtown
Most of our favorite events looked very different in 2020--if they happened at all. Red Wing Downtown Main Street has been hard at work to keep our downtown as lively and safe as possible through its COVID Aware Program, local promotions, modified Holiday Stroll, and so much more.
Executive Director Megan Tsui gave a presentation of DTMS's 2020 efforts and 2021 priorities, including the downtown Sculpture Walk, mentioned in a previous edition of City Beat--more details on that to come!
What's up with downtown Red Wing? Watch the presentation.
