Just ahead: Smoother driving in Red Wing. Next summer, a major portion of Highway 58 will get resurfaced. If you're one of the many people who drive along the stretch from the Bush & 58 intersection down Plum Street to Main Street, that's good news. This MN Department of Transportation project has been five years in the planning phase and is largely funded with state and federal dollars. When the Red Wing Public Schools called for help in creating music education curriculum this year, the Sheldon Theatre answered the call. With financial help from the Jones Foundation and the Red Wing Public Schools Foundation, Sheldon staff member Jennifer Staley got to work designing sessions that will deliver high-quality content that eases the burden of teachers struggling to teach virtually, and also help performing artists who have limited work opportunities during the pandemic.

Old West Main Street will start reconstruction in 2021--a project that's been 20 years in the making. One potential feature of the Upper Harbor Renewal Plan is a bridge that would guide walkers and bicyclists over the train tracks and connect Bay Point Park and Levee Road with the Old West Main Street business corridor. The City just received an additional grant for the bridge, but the amount of local funding needed is still not known. Council members will learn more this fall as total grant dollars get awarded and construction costs get finalized. Absentee voting is well underway and if you want to skip Election Day polling lines, you can cast your ballot early right up to November 2.

In-person absentee voting is available at City Hall and the Goodhue County Government Center. At City Hall, just press the blue button for assistance and City staff will provide a ballot for voting or answer any questions you have. So, are YOU ready to vote?
