Ring in the holiday season with the San Gabriel community at the 40th annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony this Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. in Plaza Park.
The free event will feature holiday treats, kids' crafts, musical performances and a visit from Santa Claus himself, riding in on the Fire Department's historic fire engine. Plus, new this year, enjoy a special pop-up holiday marketplace, which will include a free family photo booth and vendors selling the perfect holiday gifts.
And don't forget to share your photos using #MySGHolidays, we'll post the best ones on the city's social media accounts.

Attend second 411 With The Chief Dec. 7
|
|
Police Chief Eugene Harris will hold his second monthly 411 With The Chief event on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers, 425 S Mission Drive.
The event is a unique opportunity for community members to talk to Harris, ask questions and raise concerns about safety in their neighborhoods.

Historic preservation ordinance draft ready
|
|
The draft of the new proposed Historic Preservation and Cultural Resource Ordinance is now available for public review and comment.
The draft lays out an in-depth and detailed plan and guidelines aimed to protect the city's historic structures and resources.
Community members who wish to read the draft can find it
online, and should send comments to Senior Planner Larissa De La Cruz at
[email protected] by Jan. 30.
Stay tuned for details about an upcoming community meeting in mid-January.

City launches #DontTrashSG campaign
|

Video PSA messages released in three languages
|
|
In an ongoing effort to combat illegal bulky item dumping in San Gabriel, the city this week launched a video campaign.
The video PSA, posted in English, Spanish and Chinese, aims to educate residents that discarding bulky items in the right of way is illegal. Plus, it is easy to keep the city clean by just calling Athens Services, which will pick up bulky items for free with an appointment.

Free art workshop this Thursday
|
|
Starting this Thursday, the Community Services Department will host free art workshops on the first Thursday of the month.
The inaugural class will be on Dec. 1, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. in the Padillo Room, 324 S Mission Drive. The topic of the class will be sketch drawing using a model. All art supplies are free for attendees.

The city's monthly financial report, which includes a revenue and expenditure summary as well as a trial balance for the month ending October 31, 2016, is now available
online.

Enjoy 'The Nutcracker' ballet this season
|
|
This month, Pasadena Dance Theatre will present "The Nutcracker" at the Playhouse.
Shows will be Dec. 10-23 and will feature more than 80 dancers who will bring to life Clara's Christmas Eve dream of a dashing Nutcracker Prince and a devious Mouse King on an enchanted journey to the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Pasadena Dance Theatre artistic director Cynthia Young's choreography to Tchaikovsky's beloved musical score will dazzle audiences of all ages in this holiday classic.
