Summer is in full swing and it's time to make the most of it. Between the Water Park, Park Naturalists, Public Library, and splash pad, you don't have to go far to have fun.

Building Up Housing - One Goal at a Time
Housing - it's one of the most talked about issues in Red Wing today. What are our community's goals for increasing affordable housing options so we all can live better? Our latest animated " 2040 in 2" video shows you in just two minutes what our 2040 Community Plan says. Take a look and share with others!

Your Chance to Putt In Your Opinons

If you live in Red Wing, chances are high you've got an opinion about Mississippi National Golf Links, which is owned by the City of Red Wing. Good; we want to hear it. We're looking for input regarding the care, management, and future of this community property. Could you take a minute to
fill out the survey? Then come to the City Council Workshop on this topic on
Monday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 315 West 4th Street.
Dive into Summer
The Red Wing Water Park opens this Saturday
This Saturday, the wait is OVER! The Red Wing Water Park officially opens for the season on June 15 and it will be worth the wait. Don't take our word for it though--get an inside look from Community Recreation Coordinator Josh Thygesen in the video above. For details on passes and classes, visit our website or call 651-385-4568.
Bridging the Past, Present & Future
The Red Wing bridge over the Mississippi now has a new name: the Eisenhower Bridge of Valor. A group of local advocates appealed to our state government to have the bridge's name honor veterans and first responders, in addition to the President it was originally named for. The name changed as part of bill S.F. 1093, Section 17. Want an up-close look at the new bridge under construction? The Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce is offering tours with our own City Engineer, Jay Owens. Give the Chamber a call at 651-388-4719 to reserve your spot.
Hello, Kingman Avenue!
Living in a historic town has its charms, but outdated utilities isn't one of them. The water mains on Kingman Avenue (tucked between Central and West Avenues) are more than one hundred years old and need to be replaced. Learn the scope of the project and which streets are included in the following video with our friendly city engineer Dean Chamberlain.
Community Celebration June 29 - Colvill Park
Come out for an afternoon of fun to play, meet new friends and families, and learn a little more about Red Wing. The Hands for Hope collaborative, made up of many groups and individuals (including the City of Red Wing) is hosting a celebration for everyone. No RSVP required. Free food and prizes. Questions? Call 651-388-6309.
Plastic Bags -- Where Should They Go?
Did you know plastic bags are NOT recyclable? At least not in our blue recycle bins. The Public Works Solid Waste Campus is asking for your help to keep all plastic bags out of Red Wing's recycling. They cause lots of problems, including getting caught in processing machines and causing otherwise good recycling to be thrown out.
So what should we do with them?Plastic bags can put in the trash or--even better--dropped off with local retailers. Many shops have plastic bag-specific recycling bins right inside their entryways for just that purpose.

Summer Eats Now on the Streets
Cartoon image of a blue food truck
They're a community summer staple: food trucks. Whether you're in the mood for a taco, panini, or good ol' grilled cheese during your lunch break, each food truck offers something a little different.

This year's list of licensed food trucks is now available. See which trucks will be where at what time all week--try saying that five times fast.
Rolling Up with Results
The results are in! Dedicated City Beat readers might remember our call to answer a public transportation survey back in our March 29 newsletter. Hiawathaland Transit has reviewed the results and is already making changes. 78% of survey participants said they don't use the early morning route, so as of July 1st, that service will be replaced with a Dial-A-Ride service. Just call up Hiawathaland at 866-623-7505 when you need a ride and the bus will be on its way to pick you up. View the full survey results here.
All in a Day's Work
Photo of Marshall Laidlaw
Meet the City's youngest ever employee, Marshall Laidlaw. He's a part-time Audio Visual Technician, so if you tune into Channel 6 or the City's social media, no doubt you've seen his work. Over the past year, Marshall has balanced his time with the City alongside his main priority, school, and numerous activities. We're excited a new generation of Red Wing residents is getting involved in local government. If you see Marshall out and about, say hello!
