City staff to conduct outreach on massage
City staff members have launched a campaign to better reach out to massage business owners and operators following a public hearing on proposed new regulations this week.

At its special meeting on Jan. 23, the Planning Commission approved moving forward with several new regulations on massage establishments. Ultimately, the proposed changes will go before the City Council at a future meeting.

Several people spoke out against the proposed changes at the meeting, and after hearing from local business owners, city staff members decided to do further outreach and postpone the City Council hearing on the new rules until April.

City participates in Homeless Count
On Tuesday evening, volunteers from various city departments participated in the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Homeless Count.  The count indicated five homeless individuals living in the city.

City staff from Public Works, Community Services, Police, Finance and City Clerk's Departments covered 250 road miles in the city, searching San Gabriel's 10 census tracts for homeless living on the street.

This was the first time the city had participated in the count since 2011. With this new data, city staff members have more accurate information to help the city's homeless population and begin to develop important programs and services to help them.
City launches new online Records Center
This week the City Clerk's Department launched the Records Center , a new online public portal where community members can go to easily access important city documents.

The Records Center, which can be found at www.sangabrielcity.com/RecordsCenter, is a significant step forward in the city's ongoing effort to increase transparency and make government more accessible to residents.
Public Works installs catch basin screens
This winter, Public Works crews installed capture devices on all city-owned catch basins to prevent trash and debris from entering the flood control system.

Connector Pipe Screens (CPS) inside the catch basin prevent large trash or debris larger than 5 mm, such as cups or paper, from entering the connector pipe and traveling to the Pacific Ocean.

Quarterly budget update: Oct.-Dec. 2016
The city's quarterly budget update, which includes a single page financial summary as well as a more detailed revenue and expenditure summary for October through December 2016, is now available online.

Mission Playhouse receives $25,000 grant
In December, the Friends of the Mission Playhouse, a component fund of the California Community Foundation, received a $25,000 grant from The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation.

This is the first grant received from a private foundation, a huge "first step" for the new development program and 2017 Facade Restoration campaign headed by Kelly Salloum, Development/Special Projects Coordinator.

The Playhouse staff hope to raise another $150,000 from other foundations, local businesses and individuals to cover the total cost of repainting and repairing the facade.

If you would like to support the 2017 Facade Restoration campaign, and help restore the exterior of the building to its former splendor, please contact us to make an individual donation. A range of donor recognition opportunities will be provided for different levels of individual donations.

To learn more, or to make a donation, please contact Kelly Salloum at [email protected] or Anna Cross at [email protected].
