Celebrate the Year of the Rooster Jan. 28
|

Food, entertainment and free fun at 3rd Lunar New Year Festival
|
|
|
The community welcomed 2017 with celebrations last week, but on Jan. 28 San Gabriel will come together for another new year, ringing in the Year of the Rooster at the 3rd Annual Lunar New Year Festival.
Attendees at the free all-day festival can enjoy dozens of food vendors, new Dessert Land, shopping, the Crafts Village, chalk art contest and more. There will also be free live entertainment all day on the outdoor stage and inside the beautiful Mission Playhouse, including this year's new dance competition, hosted by the famous Kinjaz Dojo dance studio.
The Lunar New Year Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 in the historic Mission District (Mission Drive between Mission Road and Broadway).

Q&A on historic preservation ordinance
|

San Gabriel community members are invited to ask questions and share their opinions on the draft of the city's new Historic Preservation and Cultural Resource Ordinance at a meeting on Thursday, Jan. 19.
The city released a draft of the new proposed ordinance last month, and it is now available for review online. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 425 S Mission Drive.

The city's monthly financial report, which includes a revenue and expenditure summary as well as a trial balance for the month ending Nov. 30. 2016, is now available online.

Chinese American musicals this weekend
|

Enjoy two musical and variety shows at the Playhouse
|
|
This Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Great Glory Organization will present the musical "Where Am I?" at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.
The musical, which will have English subtitles, chronicles Chinese American life in the United States. The show stars Chi-Chin, Shih Heng and noted Taiwanese actor and singer Abraham Wei.
And on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m., Hope Center will present the "Chinese American WeChat Spring Festival" at the Playhouse. The show will feature music, dance and opera. For more information, call Hope Center at 626.512.2749.

Sidewalk ramp work to begin Jan. 9
|
|
Starting on Monday, Jan. 9 through Monday, Jan. 23, ACE contractors will begin replacement of the curb ramps along portions of Main Street, Del Mar Avenue, Angeleno Avenue and Grand Avenue. Portions of the sidewalk will be closed intermittently. There will be no road closures for this work. Work will occur weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
