Meet Police Chief Eugene Harris Nov. 2
First '411 With The Chief' event offers unique opportunity
On Wednesday, Nov. 2, residents will have a chance to meet newly appointed Police Chief Eugene Harris at the first "411 With the Chief" event. 

Following this inaugural event, Harris plans to host these informal meet and greet sessions every first Wednesday of the month. The event is a chance for community members to ask questions, voice concerns and just get to know the new chief.

"411 With The Chief" will be from 5-7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 425 S Mission Drive.

Summary of Oct. 18 City Council meeting 
At its regular meeting on Oct. 18, the City Council completed the following actions:
  • Approved a motion to consolidate the March 7, 2017 General Municipal Election with Los Angeles County.
  • Approved moving forward with a proposed Cinco de Mayo Festival on May 5, 2017.
  • Approved a professional services agreement with GreenPlay LLC for the Parks and Open Space Master Plan.

SGPD to host Drug Take Back on Saturday
The Police Department will hold a Drug Take Back event on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Police Station, 625 S Del Mar Ave.

The event aims to prevent pill abuse and theft by giving residents an opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. 

The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked. Do not bring liquids, needles or sharps. Only pills and patches will be accepted.

Spooky times at Fall Fun Fest next Friday
Don't miss the free family fun on Oct. 28 at the city's annual Fall Fun Festival.

The event will treat guests to a boo-riffic time, with Halloween themed activities in the historic Mission District from 5-9 p.m. Free activities include games, trunk-or-treating, costume contest, free food, movies in the Playhouse and more.

Budget brochure provides financial info
The City Council approved the 2016-2017 Budget and Capital Improvement Program in July, and now residents can easily learn all about the city's funding choices with new user-friendly materials.

The "Budget in Brief" brochure, released this week, provides an easy-to-understand summary of the budget and CIP. Community members can also read the full budget book online and in person at City Hall or the San Gabriel Library.

Download the new city mobile app today
This month, the city launched the redesigned city mobile app, which now matches the recently redesigned city website.

The mobile app offers countless tools for residents, business owners and visitors. Notable features include the calendar, emergency alerts, news, parking permit application and request tracker.

RSVP for State of the City by Oct. 28
On Thursday, Nov. 3, community members are invited to the State of the City Address at 11:30 a.m. at the Mission Playhouse, presented by Mayor Chin Ho Liao.

Cost for the event is $15 per person, and includes a catered lunch. Those who would like to attend the event but don't wish to partake in lunch can attend for free. RSVP by Oct. 28 to [email protected] or 626.308.2805.

Monthly investment report available online
The city's monthly investment report for the month ending Sept. 30, 2016 is now available on the city's  websiteFor more information, please contact Finance Director Tom Marston at 626.308.2812, ext. 4610 or [email protected] .
Community groups receive donations 
Earlier this month, three San Gabriel organizations received much-needed funds from Wells Fargo, and were awarded at a special ceremony. 

The San Gabriel Valley YMCA, Asian Youth Center and San Gabriel Kiwanis each received $1,000 donations from the bank. The groups were among 62 non-profits in the San Gabriel Valley that were awarded the donations, chosen based on the work they do in the community.

Grammy-winning mariachi this Saturday
This Saturday, Oct. 22, Guzman Entertainment will present "Tradición, Arte y Pasión," featuring two time Grammy Award winning Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. 

The concert will feature music from the 1920's to the present with songs including: "Estrellita," "Nuestro Gran Amor," "Yo Soy Mexicano," "Movimiento," and "Huapango de Moncayo." 

The show begins at 7:00 p.m.

Grab a unique Halloween costume Sunday
Looking for clothing or accessories for your Halloween costume? Come to the Mission Playhouse on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 10:00 a.m. for Treasures from the Attic: Part Two! 

Clothing, hats, shoes, fabrics, jewelry, notions and accessories will be for sale. Fill up a brown paper bag for $10 (bag is provided).

CONSTRUCTION ALERTS: 
All four bridges at Del  Mar Avenue, Ramona Street, Mission Road and San Gabriel Boulevard have been completed over the trench, and are now open to traffic following staggered closures. Work will continue through next year on the aesthetic features on the bridges, including sidewalks, pedestrian barriers and lighting, but will not significantly impact traffic. Businesses along the ACE route are open and ready for customers, with no delays or detours.
