Mission Playhouse marquee dedication
Culmination of 10 years work
Join us at this historic occasion as we celebrate the official dedication of the new San Gabriel Mission Playhouse Marquee and Facade Restoration Campaign Launch. The celebration will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 4:00 p.m. in the Mission Playhouse Plaza.

The culmination of 10 years work - replacing a worn and dilapidated structure which stood for over 40 years, the new marquee employs the latest digital technology in a design that sensitively echoes the historic Mission Playhouse architecture.
  News from City Hall
CDFA public meeting Feb. 15
The California Department of Food & Agriculture is holding an open house-style public meeting tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 15, 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the San Gabriel Library, Multi-Purpose Room, 500 S Del Mar Avenue to discuss their response to the infestation of the citrus greening disease, Huanglongbing (or, HLB for short) that was detected in residential citrus trees in San Gabriel.

HLB is bacterial and spreads from one tree to another either by grafting or by a tiny insect called the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP).  The County of Los Angeles and most of Southern California has been widely infested with ACP over the course of the last eight or nine years.  HLB does not directly harm humans or pets, only citrus trees and closely related plant species.  Once infected with HLB, a tree will deteriorate and die, typically within a few years.

Residents of affected properties will be notified individually at least 48 hours prior to any application of insecticide.

Great Streets update
The rains have slowed progress of the 2016 Great Street Program now underway.  Pavement reconstruction is now almost complete on Bradbury Drive north of Las Tunas and Charlotte Avenue between Mission Road and Grand Avenue.  Several street segments, including portions of Roses Road, Del Mar Avenue and Broadway have been "crack sealed."  This will prevent water from entering the cracks, weakening the roadway and leading to potholes. Some of these streets will also soon be "slurry sealed" which adds an additional layer to the wearing surface and extends the street life by 7 to 10 years.
Successful Wine, Dine & Dance event
Last Thursday evening the Economic Development Division held a successful Wine, Dine & Dance event at the Mission Playhouse Plaza.  It was a beautiful evening filled with people of all ages enjoying themselves in the Mission District. The community came out to learn Flamenco and Tango, enjoyed wine tasting, explored photo booth fun and practiced their new dance moves on the open dance floor.
