Charter Red Wing's Future
The Charter Commission seeks new members
Here's yet another reason why Red Wing is a unique community; we're a Charter City. What does that mean? Our Charter is a set of laws that we as a community have made, above and beyond what the state of Minnesota regulates. Pretty cool, huh? We have a commission made of up of local citizens who review this Charter and determine if it needs to be amended, and they're looking for new members. Interested? You can apply here. Curious for more information? Contact the Charter Commission's staff liaison at 651.385.3615.

Students in grades 8-11 are encouraged to apply for this life-changing opportunity to travel to Red Wing's Sister City in Ikata, Japan. More information and the application are available here . Check out the Sister Cities' Facebook page . Its photos, videos, and testimonials from the 2018 trip will get you filling out that application in no time.
Grain Bin Gets a Yes Vote
You'll soon be driving past one more grain bin as you head out on the west side of town. City Council approved Red Wing Grain, LLC, to build a new bin on Cannon Bottom Road, but the bin will now be 20 feet shorter due to neighbors' concerns. City Council held a neighborhood meeting to hear directly from residents, who voiced frustration over excess noise, dust, and poor views. After weeks of discussions, Red Wing Grain made concessions to decrease the bin's height, turn off specific fans, and add a system to spray mineral oil on the grain to reduce dust. With that compromise in place, the City Council approved construction. To watch the final City Council meeting on this issue, click here.
All in a Day's Work
Alec Whipple is the City's Systems Engineer extraordinaire. That means he not only manages what he calls "day-to-day IT stuff," but he also oversees system back-ups and troubleshoots software issues. Basically, if it has a screen and you've got a question, Alec is the go-to guy.
The Red Wing native was officially introduced to the City Council last week after completing his six-month probation period with the City. Way to go, Alec, and welcome aboard!
