State of the City Address set for Nov. 3
Community invited to hear about city's successes and challenges
San Gabriel community members can learn more about the city's accomplishments, future goals and upcoming challenges on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the State of the City Address.

This year's address will be presented by Mayor Chin Ho Liao. In his speech, Liao will tell attendees about the many important achievements in the city this year, as well as detail future plans for growth and improvement. Liao will also discuss some of the ongoing issues and challenges that will face the city in the coming months and years. Finally, there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse. Cost is $15 per person and includes lunch. Those who wish to forgo the lunch can attend to listen to the speech for free. RSVP by Oct. 28 to [email protected] or 626.308.2805.

City to host annual Fall Fun Festival Oct. 28
The city will host the annual Fall Fun Festival on Friday, Oct. 28, featuring a boo-riffic time with Halloween themed activities in the Historic Mission District from 5:00-9:00 p.m.

Bring your little ghosts and goblins to this family-friendly event for trunk-or-treating, ghoulish games and kids' activities, a pumpkin patch, free family photos, movies and more.

Donate items to domestic violence victims 
City participates in collection drive, box available at City Hall
In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the city is participating this October in the 13th Annual Domestic Violence Collection Drive, organized by Congresswomen Judy Chu and Grace Napolitano.

A purple box will be available in City Hall, 425 S Mission Drive, for community members to drop off items to help victims of domestic violence.

Voting by mail? Ballot drop off at City Hall
The November election is fast approaching, and the San Gabriel City Clerk's Department is making it easier than ever to make sure everyone's voice is heard by accepting vote by mail ballots at City Hall.

Ballots will be accepted through Nov. 7. The Presidential Election is on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Budget & CIP book released, read it online
This week the city released its annual Budget & Capital Improvement Program book, which details the city's spending plans for the year.

The book is available for the public to read at City Hall, 425 S Mission Drive, and the San Gabriel Library, 500 S Del Mar Ave. Community members can also access the budget book on the city website.

Halloween party for older adults Oct. 31
Older adults can enjoy some spooktacular bingo and a Halloween costume contest on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Community Services Department. 

All of the festivities will take place in the Grapevine Room at the Adult Recreation Center, 324 S Mission Drive.

The Community Services Department celebrated Active Aging Week during the week of Sept. 26-30 with games, activities and giveaways for the city's older adult community.

City hosts successful 'Brokers Breakfast'
Nearly 30 local brokers attended the city's "Brokers Breakfast" yesterday at Autunno.  

Community Development Director Armine Chaparyan, City Manager Steve Preston, and the leadership of the Community Development staff briefed the commercial and residential brokerage community concerning the city's recent accomplishments, new developments, planned construction and the vision for a quality community.  The meeting included an open forum during which brokers asked questions.

'Charlie Brown' comes to SG on Saturday
Theatre Experience of Southern California will present "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" on Saturday Oct. 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Playhouse.

Charles Schultz's beloved Peanuts comic strip comes to life in this charming musical production. Ticket prices are $24. To purchase tickets, call Theatre Experience of Southern California at 800.514.2787.

'Treasures from the Attic' sale back Oct. 23
On Sunday, Oct. 23 at 10:00 a.m., the Mission Playhouse will host a second costume/clothing sale, "Treasures From the Attic: Part Two." 

If you didn't get to come to the first sale at the beginning of the month, here's your chance! Clothing, hats, shoes, fabrics, jewelry, notions and accessories will be for sale. Fill up a brown paper bag for $10. Wear comfortable shoes and bring cash. Do not bring large backpacks or purses.

The sale will take place in the backstage costume and wardrobe rooms. Enter through the metal stairs behind the theater.

CONSTRUCTION ALERTS: 
All four bridges at Del  Mar Avenue, Ramona Street, Mission Road and San Gabriel Boulevard have been completed over the trench, and are now open to traffic following staggered closures. Work will continue through next year on the aesthetic features on the bridges, including sidewalks, pedestrian barriers and lighting, but will not significantly impact traffic. Businesses along the ACE route are open and ready for customers, with no delays or detours.
