2021 City Council retreat continues

The Rocky Mount City Council continues to hold its 2021 retreat at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, with Mayor Pro-Tem Richard Joyner presiding.

"Greetings from day two of the City of Rocky Mount’s City Council Retreat. Wednesday was very informative, as we heard from the City Manager of Asheville Debra Campbell and her staff regarding all the things they are doing as it relates to affordable housing. The Mayor of Rocky Mount, City Council Members, and I had the opportunity to tour selected affordable housing projects in Asheville.

Affordable desirable housing is the foundation of any community. It is the root of everything that is positive in our community: shelter, safety, education, sanitation, voting, work, technology, family and worship.

We have a lot to think about and how we can implement strategies to bring projects similar to Asheville to our community. Hopefully, this retreat will set us on the path towards the goal of stable and affordable desirable housing communities for all:

Thursday's agenda is full, as we will hear about the City of Rocky Mount’s Affordable/ Workforce Housing Strategic Plan, Housing Bond Process and much, much more.

Again, thank you for participating both in person and virtually. Join now we and hear from our facilitators."

Citizens are invited to view the daily sessions via live streams on the CITY TV-19 YouTube channel as well as Zoom.

The schedule for daily sessions are:

  • Thursday, April 8: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Friday, April 9: 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
