Public Works officially opens new facility
Building makes way for new Police Department headquarters
The Public Works Department hosted an open house and ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Aug. 31 to showcase and celebrate the brand new, state-of-the-art facility at 917 E Grand Ave.

The $ 11.2 million, 23,000 square foot facility marks the city's first major investment in a new public building since the 1990s and the first all new facility since 1962. It is a big step forward in modernizing the department and will increase productivity and efficiency, as well as enhance the department's ability to take care of city parks, streets, sidewalks, trees, signals, sewers and storm drains.

A little history on the Public Works Dept.
The Public Works Department opened a brand new facility last week, marking an important milestone in the department's history.

In honor of the occasion, take a look back at just how far the department has come. It all started with the first Office of the Superintendent in 1913, just barely after the city's incorporation.

  Mission Playhouse
Maintenance month at the Playhouse
Theater tackles many projects to improve user experience
August was maintenance month at the Playhouse. The stage may have been dark, but there were still projects going on behind the scenes.

During the month, sound cables, lighting cables and electrical cables were tested and inspected. Front of house improvements this year included box office air conditioning, installing new LED parking lot lights and re-plastering the wall in the women's restroom.

Work also included stage improvements. The stage was prepped to receive an ADA lift, the floor was painted, 15 new flame retardant stage drapes were hung, and the annual rigging inspection took place. Backstage, the Green Room's tables and chairs got replaced and crew will now have new wireless mics that are lighter and more compact.
