City launches official WeChat account
|
|
New tool will help connect with Chinese-speaking residents
|
|
On Thursday, July 14 the city hosted a press conference to officially launch San Gabriel's account on WeChat, a popular Chinese social communications app.
The move is part of
the city's ongoing effort to improve communications
with all San Gabriel
community members, regardless of their ability to speak English well.
Since its launch on
Thursday, the account has already gained nearly 600 followers and many local residents have sent questions and comments via the app.

Celebrate National Night Out Aug. 2
|

Annual crime prevention event hosted at local block parties
|
|
San Gabriel community members throughout the city will come together on Tuesday, Aug. 2 to celebrate National Night Out.
The annual drug and crime prevention event will be hosted in local neighborhoods from 6:30-9:30 p.m. San Gabriel block parties will join thousands of communities nationwide in the 33rd annual event. City officials, community leaders, police and fire personnel will make the rounds to visit various block parties throughout the night.

Last chance for summer swim lessons
|
|
There is only one cycle left of summer swim lessons at San Gabriel Community Services.
Cycle 4 swim lessons start on July 25. Sign up now, there are a variety of different options for every skill level and age group.

Take a trip to Raging Waters on Aug. 4
|
|
Give the kids one last summer trip before school starts; head to Raging Waters on Thursday, Aug. 4 with the Community Services Department.
The bus will depart from the Mission Playhouse parking lot at 9 a.m. and return by 5 p.m. Ticket price for Raging Waters is $40, which includes entry into the park and a meal voucher. All ages are welcome.

Free 'Stage 626' concert with AJ Rafael
|

Summer Nights event at the Mission Playhouse Plaza
|
|
The Summer Nights series continues in San Gabriel with a free concert, "Stage 626," at the Mission Playhouse Plaza this Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m.
The concert will feature opening act Timothy John, a blues guitar player and singer/songwriter who writes music to speak to and elevate Asian American musicians and artists. The main act will be a performance by AJ Rafael, a Filipino-American singer/songwriter from Riverside who has more than 130 million views on his YouTube channel.
The concert is completely free and open to the public. Plus there will be food trucks on site serving dinner and dessert.

Free performance by Taiwanese Chamber
|
|
On Sunday, July 24, the Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles will present "Goodwill Mission Tour," a variety show for charity from 7:00-9:30 p.m. at the Playhouse. The performance is free to attend.

CONSTRUCTION ALERTS:
All four bridges at Del
Mar Avenue, Ramona Street, Mission Road and San Gabriel Boulevard have been completed over the trench, and are now open to traffic following staggered closures. Work will continue through next year on the aesthetic features on the bridges, including sidewalks, pedestrian barriers and lighting, but will not significantly impact traffic. Businesses along the ACE route are open and ready for customers, with no delays or detours.

Trench Construction - Ramona to Mission:
From now until Sept. 1, 2016, construction in the trench from Mission Road to Ramona will begin an hour earlier at 6 a.m. Construction noise may disrupt surrounding neighborhoods. There will be no traffic impacts. Work is not planned for the weekends.
