Annual Walk & Bike to LA this Saturday
Trace the steps of Los Pobladores and celebrate L.A.'s birthday
Hundreds will walk and bike from the San Gabriel Mission to Olvera Street this Saturday, Aug. 27 to trace the historic steps of Los Pobladores, the original founders of the city of Los Angeles.

The Celebrate Our Heritage Walk and Bike to LA helps celebrate the birth of Los Angeles, which began right in San Gabriel at the Mission. Walkers and bikers will follow the same nine-mile trek Los Pobladores took in 1781.

Those who want to walk the nine-mile route should arrive at the Mission (428 S Mission Drive) at 6:00 a.m. Bike riders (helmets required, must be 12 or older) should arrive at 7:30 a.m. Participation in the walk and bike ride is free and registration will be available on the morning of the event.

Intern brings historical costumes to life
Alexis M. Hill works with Playhouse's 'Mission Play' costumes
Alexis M. Hill is the historical costume intern at the Mission Playhouse, and she's been working this summer to clean, examine and archive the theater's historical costumes, most of which date back to the original performances of the "Mission Play" as early as 1919.

Ultimately, Hill will help curate an exhibit at the Playhouse to display the historical costumes and share a piece of Mission Playhouse history.

See a video about Hill's work on YouTube. Check out her blog here.
