Governor Announces Antibody Tests For Health Care Professionals, First Responders Governor Doug Ducey has announced a partnership between the State of Arizona and the University of Arizona to provide antibody tests for 250,000 health care professionals and first responders who are on the front lines in the battle against COVID-19. The University of Arizona will administer the antibody tests to check for antibodies through an individual’s blood sample to determine if they were exposed to COVID-19, had the virus and recovered. The state and university are working together to quickly get approval from the federal government to move forward with the testing. ( read more )

Unemployment Insurance Benefits FAQs by Arizona Department of Economic Security Q: Will workers impacted by COVID-19 qualify for unemployment benefits? A: Most likely. DES encourages the following individuals impacted by COVID-19 to apply for Unemployment Insurance Benefits: Individuals whose employer has permanently or temporarily ceased or drastically reduced operations due to COVID-19 resulting in a reduction of wages; Individuals who, due to requirements that the individual be quarantined, are separated from employment and do not have any available paid leave even if the individual has an expectation of returning to work after the quarantine is over; Individuals who leave employment due to a risk of exposure or infection and are a member of a population that is particularly susceptible to COVID-19; Individuals who leave employment to care for a family member who has been infected with COVID-19; Individuals who for any other scenario are separated from work for reasons related to COVID-19. NOTE: DES is now working with a private sector call center to expand hours into Sunday. This will begin April 26 (tentatively). Paycheck Protection & Economic Injury Disaster Loan Programs On Hold Statement by Secretary Mnuchin and Administrator Carranza on the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program The Small Business Administration (SBA) has processed more than 14 years’ worth of loans in less than 14 days. The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is saving millions of jobs and helping America’s small businesses make it through this challenging time. The Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is also providing much-needed relief to sustain businesses and their employees. By law, the SBA will not be able to issue new loan approvals once the programs experience a lapse in appropriations, which is currently the case. SBA and the United States Treasury are now urging Congress to appropriate additional funds for the PPP which will allow them, once again, to process loan applications, issue loan numbers and protect millions more paychecks. The high demand seen underscores the need for hardworking Americans to have access to relief as soon as possible. SBA wants every eligible small business to participate and get the resources they need. Due to limited appropriations funding, the application portal for the EIDL–COVID-19 assistance program (EIDL loans and EIDL Advances ) is temporarily closed. Applicants who have already submitted their applications will continue to be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. SBA is processing EIDL applications as quickly as possible and will provide those whose applications are approved with loans that will cover the business’s short-term working capital needs. This is in addition to the EIDL Advance that small businesses and non-profits are eligible to receive as a result of the CARES Act .
