City Council Candidate Forums, Downtown Denver Failing, More Illegal Alien Criminal Gang Arrests, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Denver and Boulder are considering lowering the minimum wage for restaurant workers who earn tips. This is supposed to help restaurants that are struggling under all the other laws being inflicted upon them by various bureaucracies. Weren’t we told that the minimum wage was put in place because everyone deserves a “living wage”?

  • The DEA has arrested over 100 illegal aliens in Denver. Some of these were members of the Venezuelan criminal gang that is growing roots in Colorado, despite what Jared Polis says.

  • The infamous apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, that was taken over by a Venezuelan illegal immigrant crime syndicate has been officially closed. The Aurora police chief spoke on the matter. Attorney General Phil Weiser and Governor Jared Polis were silent.

  • One Jefferson County high school principal helped a teacher forge a federal document stating a student was homeless. The principal did this to aid the teacher in having a sexual relationship with the student. Yes, this happened.

  • A judge has reversed the reversal of the previous reversal, and a re-vote regarding selling recreational marijuana in Colorado Springs city limits will not appear on your April ballot.

  • Signatures are being collected for a petition to bring the Karman Line annexation issue to voters. Please support the group in their efforts if you’d like to see this issue presented to voters, rather than city officials.

  • Colorado state representative Scott Bottoms is running for governor. He’s the current representative for House District 15.

  • Fort Carson soldiers have been charged for food when living on post. The money they are being charged isn't going toward feeding them, though. What’s up with that?

  • Colorado Springs City Council elections are right around the corner. The Gazette and KOAA are combining forces to bring you candidate forums for each district. Here is the candidate forum for Council District 1.

  • A candidate forum for Colorado Springs City Council District 3 will be held at the Hillside Community Center on February 26. Information can be found here, and also in our Miscellaneous Meetings section below.

  • Your tax money is being given to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. They are going to build a film center there, thanks to taxpayers and the legislature. Is this an appropriate use of taxpayer money? Maybe we can all ponder that question while we attempt to manage our ever-increasing bills with our ever-decreasing take home pay.

  • The Biden administration used your tax money to conduct gruesome experimental sex change surgeries on animals, such as rats, mice, and monkeys. They think your tax money is their play money.

  • A democrat senator in the Colorado General Assembly has resigned amidst ethics complaints. Staff alleged that she treated them terribly, and then the senator, Sonya Jaquez Lewis, allegedly forged letters of praise from some of these same staff members in her defense. These are the people who consider themselves better and smarter than you, and want to micromanage every aspect of your life by force, folks.

  • Some restaurant owners in downtown Denver have written a letter to Mayor Mike Johnston, alleging that conditions in downtown Denver have only gotten worse under his leadership, despite his promise to clean things up. Crime, vagrancy, and blight are causing big problems in Toilet City.

  • Denver media is informing us that taxpayer dollars that are used for childcare could dry up in the wake of the current state budget shortfall. Do you need to pay more in taxes, or is the legislature reckless and irresponsible in how it spends current tax dollars?

  • The City of Denver has hired a law firm to represent city officials who are being called before Congress to explain their sanctuary city practices. Taxpayers will, of course, be paying for this $2 million legal bill. Why do you think they need legal representation?

  • Colorado Springs saw increases in sales of homes priced at $1 million and above in 2024.

  • Potholes in Colorado Springs are still a big problem, despite all the money collected from the 2C pothole tax over the years.

  • The City of Colorado Springs will kick off the Tejon Street revitalization project downtown. The project will run from March through December.

  • Colorado Springs Utilities has decided to sell bricks from the now-demolished Martin Drake Power Plant. For $109.50, you can own a piece of history, when power was generated efficiently and affordably, before the green energy fantasy entranced technocrats around the globe.

  • The fantasy of “free” school lunches for all is crashing to the ground, and taxpayers will be forced to prop up this unnecessary, voter-approved program that gives our bureaucracies another revenue stream.

  • The Colorado Department of Revenue was late in rolling out e-filing functionality on its website. If you were waiting to file your 2024 Colorado taxes, they state that they have fixed the problem now.

  • Have you ever heard of the blind copy function for email? Well, the administrators at the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment haven’t. They recklessly exposed the email addresses of over 200 people while sending a blast email. We are certain that nobody will be held accountable for this privacy breach.

  • Our legislature wants to copy California and begin micromanaging homeowners insurance policies. This law is similar to the law that led to insurance companies canceling insurance for California homeowners before the devastating Palisades fire.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

Don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Since most of the City and County board and commission meetings are not televised or recorded, we are trying to remedy that. We now have a camera and tripod for volunteers to check out for future meetings.

If you have a tip about a story in the Pikes Peak region that you aren’t seeing reported, let us know. We will see what we can find out.
