City Council President Helena Moreno Issues Statement on Bourbon Street Terror Attack 

NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno has released the following statement in response to the attack on Bourbon Street that occurred earlier this morning:


"This is a tragic day in the City of New Orleans. I want to send my deepest sympathies to the victims and families of those lost and injured in this horrible attack. I want to especially thank the brave NOPD officers who helped stop this suspect and I hope for the swift recovery of the injured officers. As a leader in our community, I pledge to continue to work relentlessly with NOPD, LA State Police, and all our public safety agencies to enhance security in and around the French Quarter to protect locals and visitors alike. New Orleans is strong, and no amount of terror can change who we are."

New Orleans City Council
The New Orleans City Council is the legislative branch of the New Orleans city government. The Council considers and enacts all local laws that govern the City of New Orleans. The Council also approves the operating and capital budgets for the City, as recommended by the mayor, and continually monitors revenues and expenditures for local government operations. The City Council is also the regulatory body for public utilities. It also reviews and has the final say on many land use and zoning matters, as well as considers major economic development projects for the City. As a Board of Review for Orleans Parish, the Council examines appeals of property tax assessments for real estate taxes and certifies tax rolls to the Louisiana Tax Commission. Other responsibilities of the Council include overseeing the operation of the public access television in Orleans Parish.
