TACOMA CITY COUNCIL SHOULD JUST SAY NO
Tacoma City Council will vote to renew Interim Regulations Tuesday, Nov 13 at 5pm. They released a  "Substitute Ordinance"  that they will be considering.

Let us be clear: the "Substitute Ordinance" is an amendment by another name. We urge you to oppose this and any other amendment to the interim regulations.

The "Substitute Ordinance" suggests a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for any “heavy industrial” business expansion that triggers SEPA (most Tideflats projects trigger SEPA due to proximity to the water and the low square footage thresholds – learn more:  CUP  and  SEPA ). A CUP includes an expanded public hearing process that opens any given project to subjective criteria.

City Council should not adopt the “Substitute Ordinance.”

Contact City Council and let them know:

  • Businesses need certainty to invest here in Tacoma.
  • Amendments signal that the rules might change every 6 months for the next 3-5 years.
  • Amendments result in a lengthy public process each time and uncertainty from businesses over ever-shifting policies.
  • Interim regulations must be renewed without changes each 6 months to streamline public process, use public funds responsibly, and ensure a predictable business climate.
